The season of recovery…
Winter is now upon us and it’s the season of recovery, reflection and renewal, and reminds us as to why Biodynamics is a wonderful addition to our everyday lives. Our cow horns stuffed with lactating cow manure have been buried for the Winter, to be dug up in Spring. Over Winter the manure ‘transforms’ into the wonderful Horn Manure 500, the cornerstone Biodynamic soil preparation, which we will mix with water, stir for an hour and spray onto pasture over the regenerative season of Spring.
Our pasture growth all but stops during winter, so the feed we have in the paddocks at the end of Autumn has to get our cattle and sheep through the winter into Spring, when we can expect pasture growth to resume as the days warm up and rainfall is more effective.
Our cows will start calving in August and its’ critical that they retain enough body condition to keep warm and feed the growing calf foetus, whilst not getting too heavily conditioned (too fat!), as this can make calving difficult. Our ewes are lambing at the moment and new season lambs will be available in September and October.
Biodynamics workshops and more…
We have just completed our Introduction workshops to Biodynamics and Projective Geometry and received wonderful feedback and gratitude for the wonderful information and shared experiences at Hanaminno, Boorowa.
“The bio-dynamic farming workshop at Hanaminno was a perfect fit for our farm and business. To be able to see how agriculture can be completely regenerative and to work with the rhythms of the soil so we can produce the best quality and healthiest food possible for our customers. I know both we and the families who eat our lamb will benefit from the knowledge gained.” Richard Page, Stoneridge 71 Grassfed Lambs
So, we are looking at doing it all again at Hanaminno in October, and several other locations in the next 6 months! We will extend the workshop at Hanaminno over 4 days to incorporate a wonderful biodynamic activity and a Sunday feast.
Thursday and Friday
Biodynamics, an introduction, presented by Hamish Mackay. You will learn how the biodynamic preparations contribute to the soil food web creating farm fertility and balance in the soils of your farm or garden. Biodynamics is a cost effective and enjoyable method of producing high quality plants, food and fibre with regenerative ecological outcomes.
Saturday
Projective Geometry, an introduction. As well as encompassing the practical methods of plant, food and fibre production Biodynamics is also an agricultural practice that works with earthly substances and cosmic forces. This spiritual dimension is reflected in an intricate, precise, complex and amazing geometry of nature we are only beginning to discover.
Sunday
Horn lifting and horn burying, followed by a farm feast, we all contribute and share.
