50th Anniversary Celebration for Professor David P. Pope
On May 4, the Department celebrated David Pope's 50 years of scholarship, service, leadership and mentorship at the University of Pennsylvania. The event included an afternoon symposium with heartfelt tributes to Dr. Pope, followed by a lively reception in which the David P. Pope Lectureship was instated. Brandon Kao, senior in Materials Science and Engineering, along with teammates Rui Jing Jiang and Adarsh Battu of The Wharton School were named winners of the Y-Prize, a competition that challenges participants to find commercial applications for emerging technologies being developed at Penn. Materials Science and Engineering faculty member Vivek Shenoy has been named the Eduardo D. Glandt President's Distinguished Professor. This professorship was established in 2015 by numerous donors to honor Eduardo D. Glandt, Dean Emeritus of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. READ MORE

MSE seniors receive 2018 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships

The National Science Foundation's (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program has announced the offer of 2,000 fellowship awards, following a national competition of 12,000 applicants. Three awardees, Demi Moed, Simeon Ristic and Sarah Seeger, are recent graduates in Materials Science and Engineering. READ MORE
