Dear Reader,

Our very first full June in the shop — it was high noon June 14th, Flag Day, last year that the lease was signed, and our adventure was truly underway!

Now our weekends are ripe and bursting with goodness — something’s happening here on the first four Saturdays. Take your pick!

Storytime with Grandma Alva!


The first-ever reading at the shop by a real live grandma!

‘Four Men in Paris’— in Hayward!
Saturday, June 2nd, from 5 to 7pm

Plethos Productions presents a reading in the round of their upcoming fall debut of Reg Clay’s ‘Four Men in Paris’.

Inspired by historical events, eavesdrop on literary luminaries and expatriates James Baldwin, Richard Wright, and others explore new boundaries during the Civil Rights era in the City of Light.

The event is free. Space and seating are limited; call or email the shop to reserve your space, and we’ll get you on the guest list!

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence raising a ruckus and charitable funds since 1979 — are sending their very best storytellers for a very special storytime Saturday, June 16th at 10:30am!

Local Author Making Good! 

The sparkling and charming Laura Austin Wiley will read, sign, and hold court at the shop on 
 
Saturday, June 23rd, 1pm to 3pm

Ms. Wiley has a B.A. in English from Columbia University, an M.A. in English from Holy Names University, and is a teacher and jazz musician.

She grew up in rural Indiana but now lives in Castro Valley with her husband Aaron, and five cats.

Laura has written four books so far, dealing with the themes of teaching, performing, panic, and general mid-life anxiety, all of which are now available at Books on B!
