ST FRANCIS XAVIER SCHOOL

Welcome to Brendan and Ruby who started this week.  We hope that you enjoy your time at St Francis Xavier.

Principals Message

On Monday Isabella and Amy attended National Young Leaders Day 2018 with me and it was inspirational. The theme was Me Whakaro Rangatira (Think like a Leader). The speakers all had key messages which included:

Be brave enough to stand out and being different is ok.
Be passionate about what you do.
Surround yourself with people who support you dreams.
It doesn't matter how much you have it is about grit and determination.

A teacher/parent session was also held and they talked about how we can ensure that our children thrive. This statement is something for all of us to consider ...

"We thrive when we are connected and belong, when we are listened to and heard, feel safe and are trusted, can fail and be forgiven, are enjoyed and pursued, respected as individuals, are challenged and believed in, and have hope for our future. This is the essence of whanaungatanga. This is the heart of whanau."

We have a family of a 5 year old looking for some before school care. If you are able to help please let me know as soon as possible.

Have a happy and safe long weekend

If you have any problems or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. My door is always open.

Monday 4/6       Queens Birthday Weekend
Thursday 7/6    Teacher Only Day

We are holding a fact-a-thon to raise money for the Year 6 end of year rafting trip and to put towards a new computer for the school library. The children learn their basic facts, gather sponsors. They are then tested and collect their money from their sponsors.

Year 4, 5 and 6 children are sponsored per 5 correct multiplication facts ( maximum of 100 facts), while Year 1, 2 and 3 children are sponsored per correct addition and subtraction fact ( maximum of 20 facts). The fact-a-thon will be held on Tuesday 26 June, and we ask that the money be returned to school by the 4th July.
The cards will home next week.
Do you enjoy Skiing?
We are planning a weekend ski trip at Cardrona for families that are interested on 25 and 26 August. Please contact the office and register your interest before the 8th June to ensure that we get a spot as dates are filling fast. The cost is generally around $80 per person per day which includes ski rental, lift pass and a lesson. All transport and accomodation is your responsibility.
Class of the Week Room 3
Room 3 has had a busy beginning to the term.
We have had three wonderful sessions with Naomi the Sports Activator. She taught some great ball skills which will help us with mini ball. Constable Parcell worked with us for the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme.
We have welcomed our visits from Father Fredy. Last Wednesday when he popped in, he
joined us and helps us with our measuring work.
Our construction work has seen us visit Room 4 where we had an opportunity to view their
amazing work and ask them questions to help us with our planning. We are now enjoying the making stage and following our plan closely. Some of us have chosen to work with a partner or by ourselves. We are been using our GRIT when we are faced with this new learning.
For RE we have been learning about the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how these are displayed in our actions.

Cloak Ceremony

On the 27th May the new children took part in the Cloak Ceremony and it was lovely to see so many children and their families
attending Mass. Father Fredy talked about where can see God? The children were delighted when he
unwrapped the mirror and they
realised that he is in each of us.
Welcome to the St
Francis Xavier community.

31 May: Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Last Feast Day of Mary in May

The feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates the visit of Mary, the Mother of God, with the child Jesus in her womb, to her cousin Elizabeth. The visit took place when Elizabeth was herself six months' pregn
ant with the forerunner of Christ, Saint John the Baptist. We pray for all expectant mothers. May they be filled with the joy of expectation as Mary.
At the end of last year all our children took part in  Primary School Sport Participation Survey. I have attached an infographic displaying our schools results.
Thank you to the AMAZING PTA for all their hard work organising, sorting and making cheese rolls. Thank you to the many parents who also turned up to help. We really appreciate your support. It was a great success.

Dear school families,

as you may be aware the St Francis Xavier Primary School App (The Skool Loop App) has had a number of updates in recent days.

This is to ensure your experience of the St Francis Xavier Primary School App is smooth and seamless.

When you next open the school app there is a prompt which asks you to tap on the link to take you to the new and updated version of the Skool Loop app.

Please click on this link and download the new version of the Skool Loop App. Choose our region and school and the app will automatically stay on the St Francis Xavier Primary School app.
