ICYMI: Walker Stapleton Continues to Gain Support Across Colorado

DENVER, CO—Republican gubernatorial candidate Walker Stapleton was recently endorsed by the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel Editorial Board and the Greeley Tribune Editorial Board. The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel cited Stapleton’s “familiarity with state finances,” along with his “breadth of knowledge on other issues” in their endorsement, and the Greeley Tribune believes, “Stapleton's approach, experience and pragmatism,” set him apart from the other candidates. These two endorsements are just the latest in a growing list of Editorial Boards and advocates across the state that recognize Walker Stapleton is the best choice for governor.

GRAND JUNCTION DAILY SENTINEL EDITORIAL: Stapleton for GOP
“In his role as treasurer, he's been on the front lines of all the economic policy battles that have been waged in the state. He successfully spearheaded opposition to Amendment 66, a $950 million tax hike attached to school finance reform, and Amendment 69, which would have established a single-payer health-care system in Colorado. That kind of experience is lacking among the other candidates.”

GREELEY TRIBUNE ENDORSEMENT: Walker Stapleton is the clear choice in the Republican primary for governor
“For voters of all stripes, the clear insight Stapleton gained during his tenure as treasurer into the fiscal challenges facing the state should put him ahead of the field. Among the other candidates in the GOP contest, he offers the most direct, clear and pragmatic plans to fix those problems, such as transportation and challenges around affordable housing.”

COLORADO SPRINGS GAZETTE EDITORIAL: Endorsements
“The term-limited state treasurer, Stapleton has a proven record of standing up for hard-working Coloradans. His work benefits middle-class families — struggling to provide food, shelter and clothing — and the working poor. Though holding a statewide public office for two straight terms, he is the rare politician who consistently crusades against the "establishment" of decision makers moving in packs.”

DURANGO HERALD EDITORIAL: Stapleton’s experience as treasurer sets him apart as the better candidate
“Based on his years of state government experience, which the other candidates lack, the Herald’s editorial board hopes that Republicans advance Walker Stapleton to the November election.”

COLORADO POLITICS: Stapleton wins endorsements from Republican district attorneys, sheriffs
“Walker has taken the time to develop a deep appreciation for the need to address long standing law public safety issues in Colorado and I look forward to working with him to protect and serve our citizens when he becomes our next governor,” said Prowers County Sheriff Sam Zordel in a statement.

COLORADO POLITICS: Associated Builders and Contractors endorses Republican Walker Stapleton for governor
“The chapter is proud to recognize Walker Stapleton for his support of merit shop contractors and the principles of open competition, free enterprise, lower taxes and responsible government regulation. Stapleton gets business, he comes from the private sector but also has a proven pro-business track record as state treasurer,” said Doug Carlson, the ABC chapter’s president and CEO in a statement.

COLORADO POLITICS: House GOP leadership, Ken Buck back Walker Stapleton on eve of state assembly
“Calling Stapleton ‘a loyal and trustworthy ally,’ Minority Leader Patrick Neville, Assistant Minority Leader Cole Wist, Caucus Chair Lori Saine and Republican Whip Perry Buck and Joint Budget Committee member Bob Rankin  extolled the front-runner’s virtues in a letter released Friday. ‘Each one of us has worked closely with Walker for years. He is razor-sharp on the important issues facing our state, from the budget to pension reform. His unrivaled expertise on these matters makes us better able to do our job of serving you,’ they wrote.”

COLORADO POLITICS: More than 50 county commissioners endorse Republican gubernatorial candidate Walker Stapleton
“Walker has brought the right perspective to the treasurer’s office,” said El Paso County Commissioner Mark Waller, a former state lawmaker, in a statement. “He came in as a businessman and has never been afraid to take a bold stance on major issues affecting our state. He fought against the single-payer health care initiative and took down the largest tax increase in Colorado history.”
