Hi friends,
ANAR DANA Seattle has begun its 11th season. We have had two project weekends so far but it is still possible to join us in July. After that you will have to wait until a new project begins in 2019. We still have room for more dancers so please consider working with me and telling your friends and students about this opportunity. We are open for all levels of dancers and I have challanges for both the beginner as well as the professional dancer! We have dancers who come from far away, this season we have one from Canada. We are glad to host you if you are coming from out of town! If you would love to join us but feel you can't afford it, please contact me to ask about work study opportunities. I would like to make this opportunity accessible to everybody! You can come to weekend one with no obligation and see if ANAR DANA is right for you.
On Friday July 6th at 7pm we will also be hosting our second ANAR DANA Cultural Evening.
The theme is the wedding traditions of Mahdia, Tunisia. We will be hosting our cultural evenings at the Deep Roots Studio where we have more room to welcome a wider community. These cultural evenings are open to the public and are an opportunity to learn more about Ethnography, History, Politics and all the elements that go into forming different styles of dance. We always begin with a potluck dinner with food from the region of our evening's theme. I show images and videos and the evening is open to discussion. Suggested donation of $15 goes to support the studio and to purchase new costumes for the ANAR DANA repertoire.

In addition to the weekend dates I will offer in-depth cultural evenings. This season the cultural evenings will take place at the Deep Roots Dance Studio where we hope to welcome a wider community. These evenings are designed to explore the cultures of our project’s dances in more depth, including costumes, films, music and more. The cultural evenings are open to the public and cost $15 for general public and are included in the ANAR DANA fees.

Dress rehearsal: Thursday, May 16, 2019 (6-10pm)
Recitals: 17th & 18th May, 2019 and possibly performances as NW Folklife, the Seattle Iranian Festival,Turkfest and the Kent International Festival etc.
The project is a series of 9 intensive weekends of 12 hours each. The repertoire of 7 dances was decided upon in the introductory weekend. We will learn the techniques of each of the dance styles decided upon, do dance technique training and yoga, learn about the cultural and historical backgrounds for the different dance styles, learn about choreography, staging, stage make-up and costumes. There is a certificate of participation for all who complete the program.
