GENERAL INFORMATION

Servant Leadership Day
Tomorrow, 11 groups of students from Lindisfarne College, Iona College and Woodford House are spending the day volunteering at different Hawke's Bay venues and organisations. You will see aprons, brooms, spades, scissors, rugby balls, and musical scores being gainfully flourished all over Hawke's Bay as the 150 Year 13 students put their thoughts of service into action.

We have groups at Hohepa, Irongate Primary, Kowhai School, Nourish for Nil, Ideas Services, Leg Up Trust, Waiapu House and Waimarama Surf Lifesaving Club. These young men and women have chosen schools, charities or organisations that would benefit from a day’s help. Initiatives that resonate with 2018’s young leaders range from fostering relationships with the young, the elderly, and the differently abled, and joining with national and international groups who offer aid to those who need food and uniforms to attend school. A number of environmentally conscious groups are also planting trees or checking traps and tracks at Ocean Beach Sanctuary, DOC sites in Tutira, and here in Havelock North along the Karamu stream and at the Wahaparata Wetlands.

Bald is Beautiful
Later this month, a group of girls will be shaving their heads as a way to give back to the community and support women diagnosed with breast cancer. The group’s goal is to not only raise awareness of breast cancer, but to also raise $10,000 and donate all proceeds to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. This is a student-led initiative that will be taking place at school.

Many of the participating girls have personal connections with cancer and want to help change lives. Each girl also believes it is important for society to understand that hair does not define beauty. Bald is beautiful too.

Girls who have hair that can be donated (natural & 21cm long) will be donating their hair to the American Pantene Beautiful Lengths Organisation to be made into wigs for cancer patients.

The group have set up a Givealittle fundraising page if you would like to show your support and donate to their campaign:

Further details of the event will be available soon.

Wellbeing Initiative
The Pastoral team and Health Centre have joined forces until the end of Term 2 to promote introductory stress-busting mindful movement classes. Staff and students are welcome to come for a class before committing to a paid schedule of classes in Term 3.

A wonderfully experienced instructor, Mel from Cape Yoga, is taking classes twice per week: Tuesday 12.30 - 1pm and Wednesday evening 6.30 - 7.30pm. Please feel free to attend one or both of these sessions. Mats are provided, but if you have your own please bring it along with a towel and drink bottle.

Uniform
Mrs Anna Bone will be away from 20 June until the start of Term 3, so please remind your daughters to collect any sports or other uniforms they need by the end of lunch, Tuesday 19 June. Mrs Bone will be at school tomorrow, and next Monday and Tuesday. The Administration staff will be able to help with stockings in her absence.

Interested in becoming a host family?
Each year Woodford House welcomes girls from across the world into our global village. During term time, students live with their peers in boarding houses at school. In the school holidays, many students wish to stay with host families to experience the Kiwi way of life.

If you have a spare room and you are interested in other cultures, then your home could become her home away from home.

Homestays are a rewarding experience on many levels for the host families and students alike, providing the chance to learn more about each other’s cultures and perspectives.

To register your interest, please visit: www.woodford.school.nz/homestay
or contact Dana Solomon: dana.solomon@woodford.school.nz

Homestay families receive an honorarium of $40 per night.
