RIFT VALLEY ROSSINGTONS
March 2018

Dear friends,

Greetings from the Rift Valley where record rainfalls have been watering Kenya’s crops and wreaking havoc on some of its roads.  We hear that the UK is having weather issues of its own right now!

Thanks for praying for Bruce’s trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo last month.  His travel through Rwanda went smoothly and the border crossing was remarkably straightforward.  The town of Goma and the local volcano were quiet during his time there, though you may have read about a concerning trend of violence and displacement that is developing across the East of the country.  It was exciting for Bruce to help train the new Congolese Bible translators and to see how motivated they are by the prospect of having God’s Word in their languages.

Back at RVA, Bruce has almost finished checking through the book of Romans in the Rangi language of Tanzania.  He will travel to Dar es Salaam in April to work through the outstanding issues with the translation team face to face.  He’s also juggling three other projects right now – Bible stories in one Tanzanian language, an oral translation of Luke in another Tanzanian language and the Gospel of John for an Indian Ocean island that he’ll be travelling to in June.

Zoe celebrating her 18th birthday with friends last week!

Jan is also keeping busy.  Alongside her French classes, her Saturday evening ‘variety nights’ attract a loyal following of students keen to try their hand at crafts such as glass painting, etching and making mobile phone cases out of felt.  Jan also ministered to students through her recent assembly on the challenges of being an introvert at a boarding school like RVA where free time and personal space are at a premium.  The assembly had the whole school talking – introverts and extroverts alike!  This short talk by Susan Cain – author of the bestselling ‘Quiet’ – will give you a taste of what Jan said: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0KYU2j0TM4

After the excitement of topping the Amazon charts with ‘My Big Fat Greek Myth Book’ (thanks to all of you who bought it!), Martha has had to content herself with more mundane activities such as Conceptual Physics, Spanish verbs and a brief turn in goal for the U15 football team (two ‘clean sheets’ in four games, which is more than Petr Cech has managed recently).  Speaking of football, Joe is generally to be found wearing his ‘Messi’ Barcelona shirt, whilst showing polite interest in Arsenal’s more modest achievements.

With love from us all,
Bruce, Jan, Zoe, Martha and Joe x

Martha was delighted to be the number 1 Best Seller in Secondary Education!
