Internet Trends 2018: what does it mean for You, Platforms and Society

In this week's post, we share our deeply thought commentary on KCPB Mary Meeker's Internet Trends 2018 released last week, probably the most important report you can read yearly.
If you want to check the full release:
- Video is available here.
- Transcript is available here

If you don't want to go thought almost 250 slides we've done it for you and we concluded that  this year's presentation brings up a vision of a truly challenged global society, where digitization is causing the crisis of the XXth centuries institutions, and the rise of new ones.

You will notice how business model are moving towards "pay per value creation", how the close relationship between a small brand and its customers is fundamental, how the labor market is asking for knowledge, flexibility and... prosumers

In this context the GAFA are becoming trusted advisors, that eat all they can eat out of the market, at the same time enabling plaforms shapers to organize further vertical markets.

... and just a couple more reads.
Few weeks ago we released a post about Platforms & the myth of data. The key concept was about the use of data to understand relational context and measure impact, outcomes and liability inside and outside the ecosystem. So we very welcome the launch of Gig Economy Data Hub, an initiative by the Aspen Institute's Future of Work Initiative and Cornell University's ILR School aims to provide accessible, comprehensive information for anyone interested in better understanding the scope and nature of independent and gig work today.

Ironically enough, in the last few days a criticism on the real impact of gig economy came up, based on some data - that seemingly shows that the labor market is not being reshaped much.
