Club AGM & Election of Commitee & Office Bearers
|
|
On Monday June 4 the Clubs AGM was held with a new Committee being elected. This included all positions on the Clubs Management committee. Our Commodore for the past three years has now retired and I was elected to the position, one that I’m very proud and excited to be holding!
A year or so ago I needed to find a fitting for my 12, so I travelled to Whitworths in Crows Nest looking for it. It wasn’t immediately found so I asked the guys behind the counter if they had one. They asked what it was for and I explained it’s to hold the spinnaker halyard on the 12 that I sail. When I mentioned it was for a 12 ft skiff, two of the guys behind the counter showed interest and asked where I sailed, so I proudly said that I sail out of Lane Cove. They both sort of looked at each other and one of them said, “ Lane Cove 12’s, that Club is just getting stronger and stronger”. You can imagine how happy I felt at that time. They still didn’t have the fitting I wanted though!
LC12ftSSC has grown amazingly over the last few years. This is testament to the amazing members at the Club, the volunteers who man the response boats, the Canteen volunteers, the Starters, the RUST group, the Class Secretaries, the sailors, and the Committee. Our Club would not be in such a position of strength if it wasn’t for everyone who put in so many hours to make it so great. For this everyone should stand up straight!
Of course this doesn’t bring its challenges. One of our biggest challenges is where do we store and hold all the boats that sail on the river each week. This is something that I plan to focus on for the next while, to ensure that as a Club we support all of the Sailors who want to not only sail here, but also leave their boats here.
So for the 2018/19 season, I have decided that we will need four Club Captains. Of course we will have our On-Water Captain this year will be Wayne Elley, and our Off-Water Captain who will be Jack Winning, but the importance of ensuring that the Clubs infrastructure is meeting our requirements I have also appointed two Assistant Off Water Captains. Our two Assistant Off-Water Captains will be John Hayward and Shane Tatham, both of who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the Clubs facilities are good to go. With such an experienced team I’m confident that as we start to move on the project of more boat storage and more rigging space that we will be able to move to a good solution for all of us.
Below is summary of the Management Committee for everyone to have a look at and to congratulate the individuals.

I would like to thank and acknowledge our immediate retired Commodore, Peter May, who has overseen the rise in strength of our Club over the past three years. Peter's guidance has been instrumental in this.
I look forward an excellent three years of great sailing and making more good friends at the Club. We have an amazingly special place on the harbour, and its going to be great to sail on it with everyone.
Have a great time at the Club's Centenary Celebrations. From what I have seen so far it will be a night that will not be repeated, at least for another 100 years!
Max Gundy
