A high voltage sinister smile seems to run the space from Orcutt's deadpan to Heule's stone face. You'll see it only in their sound though, as captured on their 2015 "Colonial Donuts" (named to Rolling Stone's "Top 20 Best Avant Albums") with its "explosive, high-energy collaboration of electric guitar and drums as close to Delta Blues as Lightning Bolt."
[Orcutt] leads the way with violent, stabbing lines backed by his faint primitive groans and chants, while Heule fills in the space through improvisation, often dragging behind Orcutt and branching out in peculiar ways. The moments when they find the groove together and move in step… make those when they splinter apart all the more exciting and jarring. (Chicago Reader)
