Wakefield Business Week 1-5 October 2018

As the Third Sector in Wakefield makes a significant contribution to the Wakefield District economy i.e:
  • c.1500 charities and community groups in the district
  • Annual turnover of at least £180 million
  • Approx 4% of people in the district work in the sector
  • c.76,000 volunteering activities take place every month in Wakefield
Nova would like the Third Sector to take part in Wakefield Business Week 2018. This would be through an Alternative Economy Fringe Event to showcase the work of the sector and to inform and engage our potential partners in the other sectors.
Let us know what you think. Is it a good idea? Would you like to take part? Do you have any other suggestions?
At Nova’s AGM in November 2017 you asked us to have a bigger presence, to champion the work of the sector and to lobby for greater recognition and support. So far this year we have had a Community Anchor Conference (March), a Community Safety 'Big Conversation' event (April) and a number of awareness raising seminars and training sessions. We are planning a Social Prescribing 'Big Conversation' in September so Wakefield Business Week would be the next event.
Let us know what you think by emailing info@nova-wd.org.uk.

New victims' services across West Yorkshire

Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Mark Burns-Williamson has awarded £3.6million to Victim Support to continue to provide core support to victims and witnesses for the next three years. He said "Many people affected by crime often feel unable to get the help they need, whether or not they wish to report it to the police, so these new services and contracts will ensure that wider support and more options are available.” As well as the direct service for children and young people, the service is open to victims of all crime types, and also has a web chat facility as well as the hubs, including a new hub in Halifax, meaning that there will soon be one in every district of West Yorkshire. For more information, please visit the Victim Support website
