June 12 - No LNG No Pipeline Rally & Oregon State Land Board* meeting. Rally 9:15 am SLB Meeting 10:00 am

The State Land Board and Department of State Lands have the authority to approve or deny permits and easements for the Jordan Cove/Coos Bay LNG Expot Terminal and pipeline in areas in their jurisdiction. There will be a rally outside before the State Land Board meeting. We expect, an opportunity to make statements during the meeting to remind these agencies of their responsibility to protect the climate and to protect Oregon's land, water and communities by saying no to this dangerous project.

TAKE ACTION
No LNG - No Pipeline - No Fracked Gas in Oregon
The Pacific Connector Pipeline is a proposed 229-mile pipeline that would take fracked* gas sourced from the Rocky Mountains or Canada from Malin near Klamath Falls to Coos Bay, where it would be liquefied and exported from a giant new facility, the Jordan Cove LNG Export terminal. This project would become the largest source of climate pollution in Oregon and would undermine action to meet goals to protect our climate and transition to renewable energy.
*(Most natural gas produced in the US and Canada is produced by fracking and this is increasing as conventional sources are depleted.)
We need to be show up and to flood state and federal agencies with comments in opposition to this project.
Send Comments to DEQ & ACE on Water Quality impacts of the Jordan Cove LNG Export Terminal and Pafcific Connector Pipeline. Oregon Dept. of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) have opened public comment periods as designated certifying agencies under the US Clean Water Act. Written comments can be submitted by mail or online.
We intend to have a comment writing workshop here in Salem later this month along with a short play The Folly of Frack, written and performed by friends from Portland. Stay tuned, for complete deails.

Comment on FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) Review of Pipeline Permit Process For the first time in almost two decades FERC is undertaking a review of its gas pipeline and related facility permitting process. This will affect the Jordan Cove LNG terminal in Coos Bay and 230 mile Pacific Connector Pipeline (more on that below) as well as dozens of pipeline projects in other states. It is urgent that we make our voices heard. The deadline for submitting public comments is June 18, 2018.
As our friends at Rogue Climate, leaders in the campaign to stop Jordan Cove, said, "Many pipeline companies are using this opportunity to comment on FERC’s process saying it should be less time consuming and costly for applicants, so we must urge FERC to reform its pipeline review process to ensure that—above all else—the public interest is protected."
The FERC review will consider 1) its methodology for determining need; 2) use of eminent domain and landowner intereests; 3) evaluation of environmental impact; 4) efficiency and effectiveness of certification process.
We don't have to be experts to comment; we do need to tell FERC they must protect the public interest. Rogue Climate has put together a great guide for commenting, including what the review is for, talking points, and step-by-step instructions for submitting comments online. Here it is:

Kalama Methanol Refinery
After the defeat of coal, oil and LNG terminals on the Columbia, this project would be another insult to the Columbia, bringing fracked gas to be refined in Kalama, WA to produce methanol for shipment to China for manufaturing plastics. The first Environmental Impact Statement was overturned by a state heariungs board for negecting to cover the climate change impacts of this energy intensive project. An analysis by the Stockholm Environmental Institute indicates that these impacts would be very large.
Jasmine Zimmer-Stuckey of Columbia Riverkeeper recently pointed out another good reason to stop this project: the world is already awash in plastic waste and China's decision to drastically reduce imports of recycled plastic for reprocessing means it will only get worse.
