Programs, Prizes, Reading: Summer Reading is Here

Summer Reading officially started on Saturday, and programming kicked off this afternoon!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11, we're having Magician Spencer Grey (above) perform on the patio. After that it's jam packed: we'll be doing 8-9 programs a week! See the list below or the Summer Reading and the Tween Summer Reading webpages for details.

In addition to being the start of Summer Reading, June is also Pride. Last year I created a Drag Queen Story Hour list that is still relevant and important. All kids have questions about what it means to be a boy or girl, and I love DQSH for modeling curiosity, exploration, and fun.

As always, let me know if you have book list requests, feedback, or suggestions.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone this summer!
Thanks,
Erin

Drag Queen Story Hour Recommended Books

It's June and the Bay Area is awash in rainbows (and yellow and blue).

This list was recommended by Drag Queen Story Hour. DQSH was started in San Francisco. It is now a nation-wide program where drag queens, in full makeup, do story times with books focused on LGBT children and families, or gender nonconforming kids. Last year I heard the drag queen Yves St. Croissant perform a story time and give a talk about her experience growing up. After reading My Princess Boy she said, "I can only imagine what reading this book as a child would have meant to me, what it would have felt like to be loved like that."
