obuc children + family news

Hello, hello!

It is Tuesday, June twelfth. Whaaaaaaat!! Yet, it is true: mid-June, you are here. Let's take a small break to be together - an open-air market stroll, dinner with friends, a little grown up conversation, some fort making.... Come as you are to our Supper Hour at Oak Bay United Church, and before (or after), check out the village's night market (I'm running an Art Tent with our fab church volunteers!).

The FamJam Supper Hour - potluck!
5-7pm Oak Bay United Church Community Hall
Wed June 13th

Bring a dish to share (whether you made it yourself, or the friendly staff at a local grocery story did, come as you can). Thanks to Shannon for hosting and to youth, V. and A. for providing child care!

The Night Market runs down Oak Bay Avenue, from Cobbs Bread to Octavio's Deli, 4-8pm. Our art tent is open for that full time too.

all best,
Tressa

Ps. Summer Solstice celebration -->
Also: a break on the 21st, too. Kabobs and corn on the cob, fabulous live music, and a cozy community vibe. All are welcome. By donation.
Here's what we know:
  • Next FamJam Supper Hour will be June 13, 5-7pm, hosted by Shannon D. Thanks, Shannon!
  • The Supper Hour will be true potluck - bring whatever you are able to bring.
  • There will be an intentional person to provide supervision to the children each week, we'll pay a youth to be this person ($12/hr).
  • The meal will be open to anyone who attends, not limited to people with children of their own, or people from the church community only. All are welcome, and yes! do invited your friends.
  • The format will be meal from 5-6ish, adult circle 6-7ish, childcare 6-7ish.
  • At the end of each Supper Hour, someone will volunteer to host the next Supper Hour (open the doors, get dishes out, welcome folks as they arrive, lead grace, and enable the transition between the meal and the adult/child circles).
  • For the next few Supper Hours, the adult circle will start with a round of names and a check in, and a topic for discussion may emerge. (In the future, the group may set a specific discussion topic or scriptural study.)
  • Those who attend will chip in on the clean up. The desire is for every person attending to become as familiar with the church kitchen as with our own kitchens and able to set up/ clean up/ trouble shoot just like at home!
  • Future Family Supper Hour dates over the summer are Wednesdays June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8, August 22.
