Borderland needs a special dispensation to run

Borderland is working towards getting building permit for all non-tent structures in the quarry.

Dear community of stars.

We have one of those situations that can really bring us all together around solving a crisis! To our surprise, it has come to the fresh attention of both ourselves and our hosts Stevns municipality that as Boesdal Kalkbrud is within 300 m of the coast, it falls under the jurisdiction of Kystdirektoratet (KD) and the infamous coastal protection law they are charged to uphold. This means that the Borderland needs a special dispensation to run. This dispensation usually has a 4 month waiting period and is usually applicable to projects that are much much smaller than ours. More details, clarifying questions and advice may be asked on this thread on Talk.

There are two applicable solutions to this, and in order to ensure that the Borderland happens this year, we must work on both.

Solution A: Get dispensation
Tto work with KD to get a dispensation. This will require a fairly comprehensive report of our plans as they currently stand. A small, focused and knowledgeable team are working on this report as we speak. The main issue here is time. We need to have this application in as fast as humanly possible. The details and solution will be unfolding here, although the team working on it are very busy tonight, so please be patient. A dedicated team is working on a list that will be compiled from the Dream database so dreamers registered in the database don't need to take action.

Solution B: Change location
To change the location of the Borderland. This is obviously not our preference, but it may be the last-ditch effort to save our event, so we need to prepare for it as a contingency. As we are about to enter the third act of the preparations, time is not on our side here either. We would need to find a location that will not be too painful to relocate to. This means prioritizing locations close, but we are open to alternatives. Find out more details, suggest solutions, and ask for advice here

The reason we're telling you this now is that we have a proven trust that transparency works best in this community and that burners work together in times of crisis not only to solve their problems with communal effort, but also to grow culture and collective intelligence from the muck of unexpected surprises.

What you can't do:

  • DON’T: contact officials without proper AP. more info for them is not better
  • DON’T: PANIC
What you can do:
  • DO: In the thread talks, tell us if there are angles, suggestions and resources you see, that we have not.
  • DO: wait patiently as events unfold. We're doing our best to get the basics of the permit handled smartly, but if and when we'll need something from your specific project or camp, don't call us; we'll call you.
  • DO: take a breath. We’ll get through this together.
  • DO: bitch and whine about how this is throwing your summer into chaos in the whinery on this thread.

If they approve it, you can build it. Be ready to write your building application or your building dream doesn't happen.
