From the

Headmistress
Dear Parents,

Next week we look forward to our Junior Production which will be performed at the Guildhall on Thursday and Friday evening.

Thank you parents for your support with costumes, learning lines and for making arrangements for an adjusted timetable next week.  It will be a very busy week for everyone and we are very grateful for all your support.

Drama is so important for our children.  It gives them the opportunity to move, speak and respond to one another.  Drama is fun for them, making learning enjoyable.  It also develops important skills such as self-confidence, co-operation, communication, empathy and creativity.  Through their roles, children also have the opportunity to develop their problem solving skills.  They need to think for themselves, sometimes under pressure, and react quickly.  They show more responsibility and we are all so proud of what they can achieve in such a short time.

Our whole school photograph will be next Tuesday morning at 10.00 am.  All our children should be arriving everyday in blazers, hats or caps.  Please ensure that your child has their blazer Tuesday morning for the photograph.  Thank you.

We all wish our swimming team and netball team every success on Saturday morning at their regional and national competitions.  Enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards
Mrs Korcz
Headmistress

EYFS visit Natureland
Natureland News!

On Wednesday, under cloudy skies, Class One, Reception and Pre-School set off for their visit to Natureland, Skegness. As the coach neared the coast, the sunshine appeared and 43 excited children (and their teachers) disembarked for a day of discovery. Arriving in time to watch the animals being fed, all three classes quickly washed their hands and ate their fruit snacks before gathering around the main pool area to watch the seals and penguins eating their fishy breakfast. The children really enjoyed seeing all of the different animals, reptiles, fish and tropical butterflies. One greedy goat took full advantage of Yara's kindness; grabbing the full bag of food from her left hand (and eating it all - including the paper bag!) instead of nibbling from her outstretched right hand, this caused an outburst of the giggles amongst her classmates. After lunch, further exploration, followed by a refreshing ice lolly completed the day. The staff at Natureland, and the coach driver congratulated all of the children on their outstanding behaviour. It was a fun day. Everyone learnt so many new and interesting facts and returned from their trip with lots of tales to tell. Thank you to everyone for your support in arranging and managing the day. Nursery/Pre-school
A busy week in Nursery and Pre-School

In Phonics this week we have focused on j, sh & r. Next week we will be focusing on y, v & w. I am aiming for the children to know all set 1 sounds (and we are nearly there!) on sight without necessarily matching to pictures by the end of the term if possible, in order to prepare them to the best of our ability for Reception.

In Numeracy the children are doing very well with their number recognition and ordering. Do please keep the practice going as this will help secure their knowledge. We had a go, on Wednesday, at learning the 1x tables and counting to 10 in French.

Sunflower seeds

This week the children also planted their sunflower seeds with Mrs Atkins and are keeping a diary where we will be true scientists and observe to changes that take place. We will be measuring them in cm to see how tall they grow.

Habitats

It was super seeing the individual mini-beast habitats that the children had made over the half term holidays. They were full of the children’s creative ideas and they were all very enthusiastic to tell the class including Mrs Korcz how they made them! As always, I was amazed by the originality and individuality of each habitat. Well done everyone!

Year One
Collecting Data in Class One

This week, Class One have been looking at collecting data and how to represent that information.  The children have enjoyed discussing pets and counting up data to create a barchart. They have been looking into each others' eyes to make a pictogram, and deciding whose hair is dark blonde, brown, black (or grey!) to place everyone in the right section of a Venn diagram. It has been great fun and the children have seen how easy the results, in visual format, are to read. The tasks have involved teamwork, I.C.T. and careful counting. Super work, Class One. Collectively you make a great team! Mrs Bell
Sport
U9 Rounders v St Hugh's

The Under 9’s played against St. Hugh's in their third match of the season. After a shaky start, the girls found their rhythm and managed to score some whole rounders, with some great hits and runs.

The girls began to make better decisions with the fielding of the ball, however, on several occasions they panicked and misfielded it by throwing it to the wrong post, i.e. to fourth instead of second and vice versa, so we consequently lost rounders that way. We need to think before we throw.

With continued throwing and catching practice, the girls fielding will further be improved. Please take the opportunity to practice your bowling and under arm throws with tennis balls, at break times and in the School holidays, particularly as many of you have missed the Tuesday practice this term.

Final Score: St. Hugh's : 22 Rounders
Grantham: 12.5 Rounders

Cora was named player of the match by St. Hugh's.

Captain today: Leila.

Well done to everyone for playing and for the  good team spirit.

Mrs Klimes and Mrs Clegg.
U11 Boys Tennis at Stamford

The annual Stamford Tennis Tournament had a new format this year - boys only and a start time of 2.30pm on Saturday 9th (the Queen's Official Birthday) which meant a fly past of the Lancaster Bomber heading home from Buck House to set things off. Three pairs of boys took on the challenges posed by Brooke Priory, Ratcliffe College, Copthill, Laxton, Witham Hall and Stamford in a Round Robyn style tournament. Sam and Haruki (pair 1) had a tough start against Ratcliffe and Laxton, losing both matches 0-5 and 0-6 respectively. They rallied in the third match against eventual winners Witham Hall and only just lost 2 games to 3. Pair two (Edward and Tom) had a fabulous afternoon playing some excellent Tennis to win 5 games from 6. Pair three (Aidan, Leo and Elijah) also had a difficult afternoon winning only one match against Brooke Priory but improving with every match. There was no silverware to take home on this occasion, but a thoroughly entertaining afternoon was had by all.

U11 Grantham and District Girls Cricket

Our U11 girls took part in the festival with lots of nerves, and some trepidation, about what was in store. The more experienced players, such as Georgina and Imogen settled the team straight from the first over and led the team into some fantastic shots and, ultimately, a convincing win against Corby Glen by 54 runs. This winning formula continued against Barkston (by 5 runs), South Witham (by 60 runs) and St Mary’s (by 72 runs). The girls were all settling in to some lovely cricket, with every one of them having a go at overarm bowling, batting with confidence and flair and a team spirit, which was a delight to see. The semi final against Uffington was the first game where fours and sixes were not so easily delivered, due to some active and determined fielding. A closely fought match eventually ended in another victory and a well deserved place in the final. Barkston were the opponents again, but this time were prepared for our big hitting batters and cancelled them out with some difficult underarm bowling. Eventually, the teams matched each other for wicket taking and run scoring but in a tight finish, Barkston eventually won by just 4 runs. This was a fabulous result for our girls as we witnessed progression and enjoyment throughout the team. Congratulations to all players.
