Performers and audiovisual authors gathered in European Parliament 

On 29 May, SAA together with the Federation of European Film Directors (FERA), the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE) and performers' organisations (AEPO-ARTIS, FIM, FIA, AIO), organised an event in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Prominent performers and audiovisual authors (Murray Head, Julie Bertuccelli, Jochen Greve, Hans Werner Meyer, J.J. Milteau, Paola Randi, Johan Van Assche and Nacho Garcia Vega), from across Europe, shared their experience and asked members of the Parliament to include the right to fair remuneration in the new Copyright Directive. SAA welcomes reform of EU rules on audiovisual media services

On 26 April, the EU institutions agreed on the reform of the EU Directive governing audiovisual media services (AVMS). SAA welcomed the introduction of a minimum quota of 30% of European works in video-on-demand catalogues and the guarantee that those works can be easily discovered and promoted. SAA also welcomed allowing Member States to require financial contributions from all audiovisual media services established in their territory and in other Member States but targeting their audience.  Read our press release

New international legal study on the right to remuneration

The International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), Writers & Directors Worldwide (W&DW) and SAA published a brochure summarising the first comprehensive examination of legislation worldwide which sets to bring fair payment to audiovisual authors by bringing them remuneration rights. European survey on the remuneration of audiovisual authors

The Federation of European Film Directors (FERA) and the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE) published their initial findings of a European survey on the remuneration and working conditions of audiovisual authors. It shows that authors have extremely unstable incomes and very few can make ends meet through their income from their creative profession. Read more.
