World Vision Health and Nutrition 2017 Review

Greetings Global Health Community!

It is with great pleasure that we share with you our short 2017 Health and Nutrition Annual Review.  Whereas last year we focused on our alignment with SDG's 2 and 3, this year we've organized our reflection around a few themes we feel have growing strategic importance: early child development, nutrition, community system strengthening, faith and sexual and reproductive health, fragile contexts, and violence.  Children, women, and adolescents emerge consistently across these themes, reinforcing the logic of the global women's and girl's protection and empowerment movement.  Unlike the typical annual reporting you might see elsewhere, we choose to integrate our narrative within what is happening globally, focus on the evidence generation of our work, and propose a few policy recommendations.  We've kept it short, and we hope you'll find it compelling.

We would love to hear your feedback on the annual review, and any reactions to the content and recommendations.  Please feel free to write directly to any of the experts cited in the report, or to Dan Irvine, Senior Director for External Engagement (dan_irvine@wvi.org).

I invite you to download this resource and explore wvi.org/health to learn more about World Vision Health & Nutrition Programming.

Kindly,

What Your Community Is Sharing:
It Takes Health To End Violence Against Children

There is increasing recognition that the health sector has a vital role to play in ending violence against children. This REVIEW assesses alignment between 24 countries' national health policies and the WHO's Global Plan of Action to strengthen the role of the health system within a national multisectoral response to address interpersonal violence, in particular against women and girls, and against children. An in-depth review was done for three countries: Philippines, Rwanda, and Tanzania. World Vision International and the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children collaborated to produce this REPORT.
Solutions: What Works To End Violence Against Children

Preventing and addressing violence against children is an urgent and complex task, but it is possible. Over the past five years, a strong evidence base has emerged around a number of interventions and a set of strategies that can effectively reduce and eradicate this problem. This REPORT looks at seven key lessons we've learned while working to end violence against children.

Expanding The Population Coverage of Evidence-Based Interventions With CHWs

We used the Lives Saved Tool (LiST) to estimate the number of maternal, neonatal and child deaths and stillbirths that could be prevented if 73 countries effectively scaled up the population coverage of 30 evidence–based interventions that CHWs can deliver in these high– burden countries.  Read the ARTICLE.
