At a time when truth itself is under siege, there’s nothing more important than telling it like is. Join us at BMC as we tell the true story of us.

#TheRealSaheed: Justice for the Vassell Family

On April 4, NYPD officers shot and killed unarmed, 34-year-old Crown Heights resident Saheed Vassell in a hail of at least ten bullets.

Now it's been 12 weeks since the NYPD killed Saheed in his own neighborhood, and the Mayor has still failed to provide the public with the names of officers involved, their misconduct records, all unedited surveillance videos and a reason why SRG (a highly militarized anti-terrorism unit) responded to the incident. Meanwhile, the NYPD continues to peddle false narratives about Saheed.

BMC has demanded justice and is calling bullsh*t. In addition to keeping the pressure on the mayor and NYPD to release names, disciplinary records and unedited video of the officers who killed Saheed, we’ve produced a series of video interviews that reveal who Saheed really was and what he meant to his community.

Share the videos and join us in calling the Mayor every Wednesday to get answers for Saheed’s family.

#TheRealAwardShow: All We Do Is Win

We're giving shouts to Deputy Director Antonine Pierre for receiving a Community Builder Award from Repair the World. A belated shout also goes to the whole BMC posse for receiving the Frederick Douglass Award from the North Star Fund back in April.

#TheRealAir: Join Our Air Testing Team

Want to reveal what toxins Central Brooklyn is being exposed to? BMC is looking for volunteers to help conduct an air monitoring project in Central Brooklyn. Youth and people of color are especially encouraged to apply, and stipends are available. Email rkennedy@brooklynmovementcenter.org for information.

#TheRealDeal: Know Your Tenants' Rights

Third Rail: What's The 911?
Third Rail investigates what runs through people’s mind when neighbors call cops on neighbors. Third Rail’s Mark Winston Griffith and guest co-host Shantae J. Edwards sit down with Malika Aaron-Bishop, of GetOrganized BK; Tom Weinreich with the NYC chapter of Showing up for Racial Justice (SURJ); and Soraya Palmer, a member of Equality for Flatbush.
