Support Our Sponsor: the Earl of Leicester Hotel

We are especially keen to increase patronage by Club members at the Earl.  Every dollar spent by Club Members using an Earl Membership card linked back to the Club generates sponsorship income for the Club.  The Earl is a great pub, and very family friendly - why not try out their "kids eat free" night on Tuesdays after training?  Its only a 5 minute drive from Waite, down Fullarton Road.

Membership forms will be available from behind the bar next week, so let's get around our Club's pub sponsor - the more we support them, the more they support us!

Read on to the end of the newsletter for more information about the Earl.

Competition Bye

All teams have a bye this weekend.

Also, senior teams will not be training on Thursday night, as they enjoy the mid-season break.

Enjoy the weekend, and hopefully we will see good turnouts for training next week, as we get ready to take on Port at Waite next weekend

Senior Match Reports

A Grade v Elizabeth – lost 57-12

There is no detailed match report from last weekend, but Uni came back to earth after their comprehensive win against Barossa the weekend before, to be well beaten by Elizabeth.

For University, the highlight was Max Douglass scoring another two tries - bringing his season's tally to 12, after only 6 weeks.  It's an amazing record Max - keep it up!

Let's hope the lads can bounce back at home against Port next weekend.  With a couple of key players returning, we are primed to spring a major surprise on the competition leader.

B Grade v Barossa

The Bs were also well beaten by Elizabeth, losing 50-10.

Under 10s – v Elizabeth

Won 54-10

Tries: Malakai 2, Xavier T 1, Joe 1, Jordy 1, Euan 1, Nick 1, Hugh 1

Conv: Joe 4, Hugh 2, Nick 1

SOR: Connor 3, Lylah 2, Malakai 1

Apologies in advance for going off on a tangent but as I drove home and reflected on the game a few things kept playing in my mind. Firstly the willingness of players to put their hand up to play for the opposition and secondly how the players seem so keen to share the ball and be unselfish, gifting tries to team mates. I would have thought that both of these characteristics are highly unusual for 9 year olds who one would have thought would measure success by try’s scored. I don’t even think that Jesus and I can take the credit. Yes we have encouraged team play and encouraged the stronger players to get teammates into the game, but it is the players who have led this. One player in particular is an absolute natural leader. People often discuss what leadership is? For me it is doing a positive thing, not shouting about it but just continually doing it and then having others follow you and then having the entire team behaving this way. I congratulate you Nick, you have a rare gift, keep channelling it. This great group is however full of leaders and I hope the parents are as proud of the team as Jesus and I are.

In the last quarter V Old Cols last week, with three senior players on the sideline, the group capitulated somewhat and this week we deliberately wanted to test ourselves. Thank you to Kosta, Nick, Xavier T, Xavier S, Jade, Malakai & Rhys for volunteering with such enthusiasm to play for Elizabeth. These players also scored all of their points.

With a couple of exceptions the side tackled much better. Stopping Malakai when he is running at full speed is a daunting task but the sight of Lylah and others hanging on to his legs was wonderful.

It was also encouraging to see players rip the ball from the opposition in both open and tight play. Generally we saw the commitment and passion from the team which we want and the rucking / bulldog work was at times very good especially as we typically had our strongest forwards playing for the opposition and needed some of the smaller players to step up.

The SOR points went to players who gave everything in both halves. Congratulations Connor (who stepped up well without senior players around him), Lylah who tackled her heart out and Malakai who was just immense for AU & especially Elizabeth.

Next week we have a weekend off and then we are home to Souths. This will be a huge test especially considering their 31-14 win over Burnside today.

Under 12s – v Elizabeth

Won 37-21 - no details available

Under 14s – v Elizabeth

Lost 38-45

The under 14’s were greeted with a sunny morning out in the northern burbs. The long drive out appeared to have made the group tired and unfocussed as they had 3 tries put on them after 7 minutes of the game.

Some semblance of normalcy returned after this period with Uni dominating the ruck and maul area and evening up the score line. Going in to half time there was some light at the end of the tunnel. Inspirational words from coach Guy at half time had the desired affect with Uni taking the lead and playing good possession rugby. Unfortunately this did not last and Elizabeth ran over the top of Uni to wine by a try.

I have a feeling the tackle bags and coach Guys voice will be getting a serious work out this week……

South await Uni next week at home. With solid tackling and commitment the 14’s should be able to bounce back
