Bringing the Bronx Salad to the Jerome Gun Hill BID

The Jerome Gun Hill BID is working to make the Bronx #not62. During Bronx Week we hosted a workshop for chefs and restaurant owners in the BID to learn how to make and market the Bronx Salad in their businesses. Led by two of the creators of the salad, Chef King Phojanakong and Henry Obispo, the BID conducted a training with the support of Bronx Health Reach and the Department of Small Businesses Avenue NYC program.

The salad was created in 2013 in response to the borough ranking last out of all 62 counties in New York State for health outcomes. A riff on Bronx flavors and culture, the salad is healthy and delicious, featuring corn, black beans, mango, peppers, avocado, plantain chips, and a zesty dressing made from the Bronx Hot Sauce. Merchants in the BID are excited about bringing the salad to their customers and currently one bodega owner has successfully launched the Bronx Salad at their business. Welcoming A New Boutique to E Gun Hill Road!

The first business of its kind in the BID, D'Ingrid Exclusividades is a small boutique offering high end clothing, shoes, and accessories for men and women. 

It is the perfect store to pick up a gift or to find an outfit for any occasion. 
Their wide selection of dresses, watches, jewelry, and dress shirts are sure to please both teens and adults. Check them out at 233 E Gun Hill Road!

 

Beautifying the BID

The Jerome Gun Hill BID is about to get a massive makeover!
 
Over the summer months the BID is rolling out a beautification campaign to make the shopping corridor along Jerome Avenue and E Gun Hill Road greener and more engaging. We are launching a new banner program featuring a bright and colorful design, encouraging you to Shop, Dine, and Explore all that the BID has to offer. In addition, the BID is excited to debut new planters that will be home to seasonal flowers and plants all year long. 

Launching this week

Our new website will go live within the next few days. We are so excited to share our new site with you! Keep an eye out on jeromegunhillbid.org for our new look and check out our membership, events, and sponsorship pages to see how you can engage with the BID's activities. 

 
Local merchants will now offer discounts and deals for Montefiore and North Central Bronx employees. 
If you see a discount program sticker in the window of a business you are in luck, they offer discounts designed to help you shop local and save! From 20% off all services at Space Salon to 10% off smoothies at Tasty Picks, these deals make shopping and dining in the district all the more enticing and affordable. 
The program will be rolled out continuously with more businesses joining in over the next few months. Keep an eye out on our Instagram @jeromegunhillbid for the full list of participating merchants.
