Resurrection Voices
Meet your COR Council Members

Greetings everyone. My name is Mike Palovcsik and I currently serve on council and head up our Property committee. My wife (Barbara) and I have been with the church since September of 1980. More about that later.

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, called Clearfield. I am the oldest of five children and our family were members of the West Side Methodist Church. If you have ever seen the Norman Rockwell painting of the father reading the newspaper while the mother is leaving the house with the kids to go to church, that was our family. Mom always made sure the boys had their white shirts and bow ties and the girls were in their Sunday best.

After three semesters of college, I realized higher education wasn’t for me and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1967. I spent six years on active duty. Barb and I met in August of 1971 when I went to Tampa for a week-end break to visit a friend, and she was visiting her sister. We were married August 19, 1972. In February of 1973, I left the Navy and we settled in Milwaukee, Barb’s home turf. That summer I started working for Allis Chalmers when they offered me an apprenticeship in electrical maintenance. When they closed in 1985, I started working for Cooper Power Systems (formally RTE). I retired in 2014 and presently work part time at Ironwood Golf Course.

Mike and Amanda are our two children and both live in the Madison area. Mike is married to Kristie and they have two children.

We still live in Pewaukee in the house we built in 1976. We joined Christ the King Church in Delafield where our two children were baptized, but we never really felt like we belonged. When approached about a new church starting up in Hartland, we decided to visit. That was Church of the Resurrection. We attended the first service and found a church home. We are charter members of Church of the Resurrection. I spent about 15 years on the finance committee (the early years), serve as an assisting minister, we usher, and as mentioned earlier, I’m on the church council, and head the property committee.

It’s a comfort to be part of a church family and our nearest and dearest friends are those that are, or have been, a part of Resurrection.

My favorite Bible verse was my grandmother’s…Psalms 121-“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."

- Mike

Donny’s Girl is an old-fashioned supper club in Watertown.  A group from COR is going on Thursday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. Donny’s Girl is located 20 minutes from church at N8420 Hwy E in Watertown. Beloved by generations of locals and out-of-towners alike, there is no better place to enjoy classic supper club cuisine and spirits than Donny's Girl.

Most menu items are $13.95-$20 dollars. Deadline for signing up is June 18. Contact Pat Faherty at (262) 337-0977 for your reservation. Carpooling can be arranged. The more, the merrier!
Fort Atkinson Fireside Theatre

Join your COR family for an afternoon and evening of food, fun and fellowship at The Fireside Theatre in Fort Atkinson. On Sunday, July 15, we are enjoying a meal and a musical—"Church Basement Ladies: A Second Helping”—a sequel to the smash hit original, “Church Basement Ladies.” Dinner is served beginning at 3 p.m., followed by the show at 5 p.m. Discounted cost is $82 per person and includes both dinner and the musical. Cutoff date for reservations is July 1 with payment due at time of reservation. Contact Pat Faherty at (262) 337-0977 to secure your reservation.

The musical is about church ladies in 1969 who are dealing with the Vietnam War and women demanding equal pay for their work in their small rural Minnesota community. The ladies of the church basement are dealing with changes of their own. With heartwarming humor and hilarious antics, they take us from serving high school students at the Luther League Banquet, to a church-sponsored Missionary Night and the rise and fall of a Vikings Super Bowl Sunday.
