AKP Newsletter 25: New Artists and Songs

June 6, 2018

Dear Friends and Supporters of AKP,

We recently added 7 new artists and 71 new songs to African Music database (AMD). All songs are available as MP3, and can be played on any device that supports MP3.

African Music is an exciting curated database on African music, and the music of the African diaspora. As a curated database, we feature artists that positively represent Africa through their music. We are focused on music that is culturally authentic, and reflects the glory of Africa's musical history and present innovations. As a result of this curation, we now have a burgeoning music collection, and it is exactly the type of database that is needed for teaching African music, and for conducting research in today's hyperlinked world that gives relevancy to what I call cognizant knowledge. Scholars will find that AMD is a great resource for their class and syllabus.

Overall, African Music Database is earfulicous and gets to the hollows of our soul. The collection is thumping with its sonic vibrations that speaks about Africa to the world, and it is available for all to enjoy.

7 New Artists:

Awilo Longomba, a very popular Congolese musician known for his upbeat music. His music videos features lots of hip movements. No African party is over without a track from Awilo.

Viviane & Le Jolof Band, the very popular Senegalese band led by Queen Viviane and is often called the Queen of Mbalax by her fans.

Jahlin, a very reflective Jamaican reggae musician that wants to share what is inside.

Manu Dibango, grandfather of musical innovations, Cameroonian-born musician and songwriter is internationally recognized and has been making music for over 50 years.

Sir Victor Uwaifo, a very popular Nigerian guitar maestro known for his excellent guitar skills, which he sometimes plays with his tongue and feet. He is also the inventor of Revolving Magic Guitar.

Youssou Ndour, a celebrated Senegalese musician and songwriter that comes from a line of griots, and often credited with popularizing mbalax, a new genre of Senegalese music to the world.

Banda Maravilha, an exciting band from Angola that is influenced by the cultural traditions of Angola.
