May 2018 - May news

1 Corinthians 1:25
For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

We can definitely relate to the weakness of human strength this month! There have been plenty of opportunities to work our muscles both at home and at BLF recently. It’s amazing what some strong arms and willing hearts are able to accomplish!

May seemed to revolve around the construction team from BLF USA. The first week was preparing the apartment above our church for them to live in and doing some shopping. Then they started arriving on May 11 and continued trickling in over the next week.

Nathan and Russ got right to work on the last area in the garage nearest the shop for its new concrete slab. After that was poured, that whole garage floor is accessible to the forklift and shelves for pallets! The new aisle is destined to store all the African Sunday School materials – nicely organized, together, and easy to find.

But, even after that backbreaking work, the team isn’t done! Then, they only had one week to break down the street-side wall of the second garage and build it back up brick by brick. They got a lot done but there was still a big section that they weren't able to get to.

Some of the women took breaks from wheelbarrowing and sweeping away rubble to make quick work of a promotional mailing and worked on organizing BLF’s cellar of archives. They also filled an order for 600 Manga Bible boxsets!
Annie had to sneak away most days to take care of Ben and cook dinner for everyone. Since this team was unique in its comings and goings, the task of cooking was a bit scary. But, with a lot of help from Mary Ann and the team, everyone ate well and enjoyed the daily progress on the projects.
On May 20, the team got to experience our annual Inter-église service where all the regional churches in our affiliation (France for Christ) gather in one building to worship and learn together. Annie and Ben served coffee. Nathan ran the slides on the projector.

Ben's Business
Ben didn't do much that was exciting this month. I guess everyone deserves some down time! He really enjoyed going to watch the annual International Horse Jumping show one weekend. He loved seeing the animals up close. There were two weeks of vacation without daycare or physical therapy. He used that time to improve his running skills, uphill and downhill balance, and learn how to steer his new scooter in a circle.

Prayer Requests

- Praise God! Our first official furlough speaking engagement was on June 16th at International Bible Church in Jurbise, Belgium. We were excited to be able to present BLF to our friends there – both American and Belgian.

- Praise God for the team! They worked so hard, and was a lot of work to do. Praise God for their safety while they worked with heavy equipment and up high on scaffolding. Praise God for putting all the supplies and volunteers together for two long weeks of big projects! May God bless each member of the team.

- We went to the visa office last week. Praise God for a clear direction on how to begin our trip to America. We were given temporary visas that are valid until the end of December which will let us travel back to Seattle when we planned, in mid-July.

We are forever grateful for your prayers, thoughts, and encouragements.
Thank you!

Live today for eternity,
The Phillips
