.NG Domain Name Active Domains as at 31st May 2018
In the last two years, the rate of .ng domain name registrations has almost doubled. Yet the rate of renewals is not so encouraging especially at the third level.
In the month of May 2018, the total number of domain names registered (fresh registration and renewals) was 7,775 whilst for April 2018, the total domain name registrations (fresh registration and renewals) was 7,219. And in comparison, for May 2017, this figure stands at 6,154.

2017 Nigeria Cyber Security Report!
On Monday, 4
th June 2018, the 2017 Nigeria Cyber Security Report was launched at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. This is the second edition of the Nigeria Cyber Security Report. This launch was by Demadiur in partnership with the E-Payment Providers Association of Nigeria (E-PPAN) and Serianu Limited Kenya. The presentations and deliberations gave new insights on how Cyber Security challenges can be tackled.
The report contains various articles on Home Security, Cyber Intelligence, Cyber Security trends, and Industry risk ranking, by various contributors. The theme of this edition is “Demystifying Africa’s Cyber Security Poverty Line”.

Clean Up Exercise on Quarantined Resources
AFRINIC initiated a clean-up exercise on the quarantined resources that had reached the end of the Quarantine period in March 2018. AFRINIC reported the deletion of all related objects from the AFRINIC WHOIS database for the returned or reclaimed IPv4 address space and keep it in quarantine for twelve months or as long as the space is globally routed. The clean-up exercise ensured that these resources were not visible in the global routing table nor have associated objects in other Internet Routing Registry (IRR) databases at the time this article is published.
As a result, the under-listed resources were moved from the reserved pool to available pool in April 2018.

NITDA STAKEHOLDER’S REVIEW OF .GOV.NG POLICY
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) held a workshop on Thursday May 31
st at NiRA Office Complex, for stakeholders to review the .GOV.NG Policy. The .GOV.NG policy guides and regulates the registration of the .GOV.NG domain names for the MDAs, Federal, State and Local Governments in Nigeria. NITDA used this opportunity to enlighten all on the current policy as well as receive contributions from the related stakeholders on how best to simply the process of registering .gov.ng domain names.

2018 NIGF
This iis to inform you that the 2018 Edition of Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF) holds on the 2nd and 3rd July at Shehu Musa Yaradua Center, Cental Business District Abuja
This year’s forum, with the theme,
“Internet: An enabler for good Governance’’, is focusing on multi-stakeholder dialogue on how the Internet will enable both E- governance and public governance in Nigeria. The outcome is expected to enhance consensus building among stakeholders on Internet Governance framework, address the most critical and evolving issues on Internet Governance and also advance the nation’s position at the regional and global IGF.
The 2018 edition of the NIGF will also feature hands-on experiences on Internet governance for the youths to build capacity in value creation and empowerment that the Internet presents with the theme
“Internet for Opportunities, Value Creation and Empowerment” on the

Celebrating 20 Years of Internet governance in Africa

Pierre Dandjinou , the Convenor AIG 2018, for the celebrative event has stated that they have firm patronage from the Ministry in charge of the digital economy of the Republic of Benin and that invitations have been sent to key partners namely the UNDP, Organisation de la Francophonie, USAID, ISOC, ICANN, AFRINIC, etc.
The sponsorship campaign has been launched and contributions and donations are being sought.
The pre-conference event of 5th July 2018 in the afternoon has been confirmed with a cultural tour from 14.00pm to 19.00 pm.
Conference agenda has been drafted and key panelists have been contacted - This event is being organized back to back with the 6th Africa DNS Forum organized by AFTLD, ICANN and other partners, and hosted by ARCEP (The telco regulator) of Benin.
Pierre Dandjinou Convenor, AIG 2018, stated that they are looking “forward to your firm confirmation of attendance (off list, to him copying muriel.alapini@gmail.com) and your contribution and donations.
“Again, the event is being organized by the African Internet community who should contribute to the overall budget by covering their own fees. Of course if/when the sponsorship permits, the organisers would consider a fellowship for a few participants. So, the organisers should be informed if you need any support (either for both the trip and accommodation or anyone of the two).
