NIRA and EU GDPR

NIRA’s EU GDPR implementation is directly tied to CoCCA, to the Registry Software that NIRA runs. CoCCA, in its EU GDPR compliance roadmap had earlier customized its Registry Software in compliance with the EU GDPR and held several discussions with its clients, including NIRA to verify this compliance.
We are confident that the software version that we currently run, in which we are able to set the basic parameters for EU registrars and registrants, is compliant with the basic rules, and we are assured that from time to time, there will be reviews of what has been implemented.

NiRA Accredited Registrars are still expected to provide relevant details with the applications for domain name registrations. The technical and billing information for these set of registrars and registrants are no longer displayed via WHOIS lookup.

Clean Up Exercise on Quarantined Resources

AFRINIC initiated a clean-up exercise on the quarantined resources that had reached the end of the Quarantine period in March 2018. AFRINIC reported the deletion of all related objects from the AFRINIC WHOIS database for the returned or reclaimed IPv4 address space and keep it in quarantine for twelve months or as long as the space is globally routed. The clean-up exercise ensured that these resources were not visible in the global routing table nor have associated objects in other Internet Routing Registry (IRR) databases at the time this article is published.
As a result, the under-listed resources were moved from the reserved pool to available pool in April 2018.

Pierre Dandjinou , the Convenor AIG 2018, for the celebrative event has stated that they have firm patronage from the Ministry in charge of the digital economy of the Republic of Benin and that invitations have been sent to key partners namely the UNDP, Organisation de la Francophonie, USAID, ISOC, ICANN, AFRINIC, etc.
The sponsorship campaign has been launched and contributions and donations are being sought.

Conference agenda has been drafted and key panelists have been contacted - This event is being organized back to back with the 6th Africa DNS Forum organized by AFTLD, ICANN and other partners, and hosted by ARCEP (The telco regulator) of Benin.

Pierre Dandjinou Convenor, AIG 2018, stated that they are looking “forward to your firm confirmation of attendance (off list, to him copying muriel.alapini@gmail.com) and your contribution and donations.

“Again, the event is being organized by the African Internet community who should contribute to the overall budget by covering their own fees. Of course if/when the sponsorship permits, the organisers would consider a fellowship for a few participants. So, the organisers should be informed if you need any support (either for both the trip and accommodation or anyone of the two).
