ST FRANCIS XAVIER SCHOOL

Welcome to Juliet who started on Monday. We hope that you enjoy your time at St Francis Xavier.

Principal's Message

Last Thursday the staff attended a full day workshop run by Kath Murdoch. Her key message was that we need to develop curious learners. It is important as teachers that we create environments that nurture curiosity and create wonder. Keep an eye out in the classrooms and office for some exciting things that are about to happen.

Embrace the motto “we try new things”. Whether it is a new meal, a new sport, a new holiday destination, or a new way of cleaning the house, let your children know that you want to try new things and discover things you previously did not know much about.

If your child is curious about something, find out why. Encourage discussion. Find out what s/he knows already. When your child makes a statement (about anything) you can ask “why” and have an interesting conversation. Your demonstration of curiosity can be a terrific example to your children.

We have had to make a few changes regarding dates so please check the calendar below, the skool loop app or the school website.

On the afternoon of Thursday, 21st June, NZEI will be holding a paid union meeting of its
Otago region members. School will finish at 12.30 pm on this day. If you are unable to pick up your child/ren there will be alternative care provided. Please contact the office if you require this. We do realise that the meetings may cause disruption to parents and students and we appreciate your support.

On Friday 17 August the Dunedin Catholic Schools Kahui Ako (Dunedin Catholic Schools Community of Learning) is holding an expo day. The school will be closed for the day. Thank you for support with these Teacher Development Days and we will be making them up at the end of the year. We will be now closing on Tuesday 18 December.

Pauline and I are currently at the Catholic Convention in Wellington and it is fantastic and inspiring. We look forward to sharing our new learning when we come back.

We are holding a fact-a-thon to raise money for the Year 6 end of year rafting trip and to put towards a new computer for the school library. The children learn their basic facts, gather sponsors. They are then tested and collect their money from their sponsors.

Year 4, 5 and 6 children are sponsored per 5 correct multiplication facts ( maximum of 100 facts), while Year 1, 2 and 3 children are sponsored per correct addition and subtraction fact ( maximum of 20 facts). The fact-a-thon will be held on Tuesday 26 June, and we ask that the money be returned to school by the 4th July.
The cards will home next week.
Do you enjoy Skiing?
We are planning a weekend ski trip at Cardrona for families that are interested on 25 and 26 August. Please contact the office and register your interest before the 15th June to ensure that we get a spot as dates are filling fast. The cost is generally around $80 per person per day which includes ski rental, lift pass and a lesson. All transport and accomodation is your responsibility.

Dear school families,

as you may be aware the St Francis Xavier Primary School App (The Skool Loop App) has had a number of updates in recent days.

This is to ensure your experience of the St Francis Xavier Primary School App is smooth and seamless.

When you next open the school app there is a prompt which asks you to tap on the link to take you to the new and updated version of the Skool Loop app.

Please click on this link and download the new version of the Skool Loop App. Choose our region and school and the app will automatically stay on the St Francis Xavier Primary School app.

Once this has been done please delete the old version of the Skool Loop App off your phone.’
