Fruit Gleaning season is here!

Program Relaunch: July

We have been hard at work during the winter months to launch this program to be more successful than ever. We have created a couple of unique volunteer roles that will allow people to learn more about all the local fruit that is grown right in Richmond.

We are launching this revamped program in July and initially are only going to be picking fruit on Saturdays.

The fruits that are typically ready for harvest in July are:
  • Apricots
  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries
  • Currants
  • Gooseberries
  • Nectarines
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
If you have any of the above fruit on your property and would like us to come to pick it and donate it to the Richmond Foodbank please sign up your trees here today to ensure that your fruit gets picked on time. We want to help you avoid wasting food, and feel great about sharing your excess produce with our neighbors in need.

Volunteers wanted to help pick fruit

Join us in reducing food waste and getting fresh fruit into the hands of those who need it.  We collect fruit from homeowners and split the harvest three ways: with the homeowner,  the volunteers, and the Food Bank.  It's win-win-win!

We are currently accepting applications for various volunteer roles for the 2018 season. Apply to volunteer today.

Please note we are currently only scheduling fruit picks on Saturdays from 11-1 pm starting in July.

Gleaning Captain
Gleaning Captains will lead fruit picks. They will be responsible to pick up tools and equipment prior to the pick, orient and supervise the fruit gleaners, record fruit pick data, and deliver fruit to a community partner organization. Gleaning Captains must pass a criminal record check, have valid standard first aid, and have access to a vehicle.  We are looking for a commitment of  1-4 days each month from July to October. They will get to take home some fresh fruit for their efforts.

Fruit Gleaner
Fruit Gleaners will help pick fruit from fruit trees throughout Richmond. They must be punctual and able to follow instructions given by their Gleaning Captain. They will also get to take home some fresh fruit for their efforts.
