Message from the
CEO
The summer has been refreshing and rejuvenating for SPLC, and has brought a number of exciting changes. We have added seventeen new members since our Summit in May. We have a number of changes to our staff: one addition, one departure, and one open position. We have begun offering the Guided Individual Assessment as a new method by which organizations can assess the maturity of their sustainable purchasing program using SPLC BENCHMARK. We're pleased that four organizations are already using this new method, which we think will streamline the process and provide even more value to organizations.
We have four webinars lined up for the Fall as part of the 2018 Webinar Series. Thanks to a sponsorship by EcoVadis all of the webinars are open to the public for live viewing, so please spread the word about them to anyone you think could benefit from the topics covered.
If you'll be at the NGLCC Conference in Philadelphia in two weeks, please let me know! I'll be presenting on Wednesday afternoon alongside three SPLC members and sustainable purchasing all stars: Nedra Dickson from Accenture, Joan Kerr from PG&E, and Bridget Carter from Caesar's Entertainment.
As always, thanks for reading SPLC UPDATE.
Sam Hummel, CEO & President

Guided Individual Assessments Starting
The Guided Individual Assessment is a new way to use the SPLC BENCHMARK tool to identify, validate, and benchmark their organization’s sustainable purchasing activities. The Guided Individualized Assessment process provides a highly confidential method for using BENCHMARK. Kris Spriano, SPLC's BENCHMARK Program Manager and former Environmental Supply Chain Manager for Cisco guides the whole process. We're pleased that four organizations have already signed on to use the tool in this new way:
- Sonoco
- City of Portland
- City of Santa Monica
- Los Angeles Department of Water and Power
We appreciate Sonoco's leadership in being the first private sector organization to participate in a fully validated Guided Individual Assessment!

Johanna Kertesz is joining the SPLC Team! Johanna has been an all star contributor to SPLC from the very beginning. She helped get the State of Minnesota engaged as a founding member, has served on numerous committees, has chaired the SPLC Technical Advisory Committee and served on the Board as liaison to the TAC, has put SPLC’s Guidance to thorough use across multiple state agencies, and stewarded Minnesota’s participation in the SPLC BENCHMARK Cohort we ran with the National Association of State Procurement Officers (NASPO). Johanna will be taking over some of the member services work that Lisa now does while also helping with program work, such as coordinating our Technical Advisory Committee. Please send Johanna a warm welcome at johanna@sustainablepurchasing.org!
