June 2018
We want to hear from you!
Once again, it's time for the annual questionnaire from the Shoreline Hi Cap Advocacy Group (S.H.A.G.)!
How familiar are you with S.H.A.G.'s objectives and work? What priorities can you recommend for Highly Capable advocacy? Have a suggestion or a compliment? Here’s your chance to provide feedback and to tell us what’s on your mind — anonymously.
We’ll review the aggregate results, and share the "top priorities" with families and district administration for the 2018-2019 school year.
Please take a couple of minutes to complete this brief survey by June 25, and tell us how we, as a parent advocacy group, can better serve you and your family. Thank you!
Introducing our 2018-2019 roster of parent volunteers
S.H.A.G. continues into its third year as a community-based organization, connecting families of advanced learners across our district, and collaborating with our educators and district administrators in the pursuit of excellence with Highly Capable services. Recognizing that we have Hi Cap students formally being served in all of our schools today, we are introducing a new organizational structure for S.H.A.G., which should increase communications and further broaden our advocacy efforts districtwide.
The elementary and secondary service parent leaders will establish and drive S.H.A.G.'s organizational objectives, set meeting agendas, identify gifted resources and events for families, attend school board meetings and collaborate with our district leaders. We have created four positions:
Elementary service co-leaders: Mary Kate Horwood and Megan Menis (Meridian Park)
Elementary service parent leader: open
Secondary service parent leader: Linda Tsai (Einstein)
Secondary service parent leader: open
Our parent representatives will facilitate Hi Cap news between his/her respective school's community and S.H.A.G. They will also assist with the promotion of any S.H.A.G. event and other local events. Each representative will play an important role in fostering community and advocacy across our schools.
Parent Representatives:

Brookside: Missy Liu
Cascade K-8: Susan Tanney Campbell
Echo Lake: Katie Schempp
Highland Terrace: open

Thank you to our volunteers! However, as you can see, we still have opportunities for others to join our team! If you are interested in any of these positions or have questions, please contact us at shoreline.hicap.advocacy@gmail.com.
