First XI
Ellerslie 238-3 (40) drew with Belvoir 146-9 (40)

Cricket can sometimes be elegant like fine marble used in the construction of a palace but, sometimes, it is just industrial grade grit as demonstrated by last pair Jamie Gilbertson (5no from 36 balls) and Danny Gibson (7no from 17 balls) as they repelled every bowling change Ellerslie made for the last eight overs.  This effort secured the points for a losing draw and an additional batting bonus point.
Ellerslie’s openers Craig Holder (73) and John Wakeling (57) put on 110 for the first wicket against some determined bowling from Belvoir.  Their batting was, above all, intelligent rotating the strike and steering boundaries through the gaps.  After the departure of Wakeling, Holder became more expansive now scoring at a run-a-ball until he fell to a brilliant towering catch by Gilbertson in the deep.  Hamish Moore (65no) was less restrained.  After a little look-see he savaged 8 fours and 2 sixes off his next 30 deliveries at a strike rate of 210.  Peter Vladev added some lusty blows at the end and Ellerslie finished on 238-3 from their 40 overs.
Belvoir’s Danny Ross (66) also took time to gauge the pitch and threat from Dan Footitt and Peter Vladev (2-39) before he took off flaying the bowling all round the park.  Fifty-six of his 66 runs coming from 14 fours including a very special cover drive that would have gladdened David Gower’s heart.  When he was the third wicket to fall he had scored 80% of Belvoir’s runs from the bat.   However, by this time Moore (4-24) had joined the attack and proceeded to rattle through Belvoir’s middle order with some fine bowling.   Despite rugged resistance from Sam Penford and Joe Bottomley the score fell to 132-9 and Ellerslie would have been home and dry but for the determination of Belvoir’s stubborn ten-jack.

Second XI
Belvoir 110-10 (41.4) lost to West Bridgeford 114-10 (31.3)

For the second week running the 2s got within a few runs of victory, only to fall short in the closing overs. Some great bowling and catching , including a fivefor for Ben Robinson (5-23), reduced West Bridgeford to 114 all out.
Belvoirs reply was dominated bay a fine 58 from Harry Adams, but only Gareth King and Ben Robinson managed double figures from the remaining batsmen...agonisingly close once again !

Third XI

Belvoir 206-2 (43) beat Lowdham CC 2nd XI 205-6 (45)

Back to winning ways for the 3s
On a blustery overcast day with the constant threat of showers the Third XI travelled to Lowdham for their latest Division L fixture.
As per usual Captain Robbie McNeish won the toss and having announced that the Lowdham team looked “even older than us”  invited the home team to bat. Belvoir took to the field with the unpleasant aroma from the nearby recycling plant wafting around the ground ! The Belvoir attack soon lost one of its key members when opening bowler Sam Bicknell fell heavily onto his right shoulder in only his third over. He was unable to bowl again and was taken to the Queens Med for a check up. Thankfully only severe bruising was diagnosed.
The makeshift attack did well to contain a pugnacious (though perhaps elderly) Lowdham batting line up with Olivia Gilbertson (3 wickets) and Matt Veasey (2 wickets) being particularly miserly and well supported by Ollie Poole, Joe & Ian De’Ath. A great effort, especially with only 10 fielders for the final 30 overs.

The target of 206 was only slightly less than the total age of the first four Belvoir batsmen ! The reply got off to a terrific start with the equally elderly Ebb and Bealby (aggregate age 116 !) putting together an opening partnership of 112 in 23 overs. Chris Bealby (59) enjoyed a welcome return to form and finally holed out at Long On trying to increase the tempo. Mark Ebb has been in the runs all season and this time made a solid 51 before being bowled. This left Steve Cartledge (29*) and the irrepressible Ian De'Ath (47*) to steer the Peacocks home with 2 overs to spare.

Sunday XI
Belvoir 124-10 (25.3) lost to Rothley Park 261-6 (40)

An overcast day with the chance of rain and drizzle ever present. Belvoir came up against a very strong Rothley side which included the current Kenyan ODI Wicket Keeper who averages 44 in international cricket ! they also fielded their first team captain and pro...
Rothley batted first and Aled King bowled with real pace which, when he strayed off line caused problems for young (13) keeper Tommy Bealby. A terrific bouncer from Aled, caught at slip by Matt Harland got rid of one of the openers cheaply but the rest of the side all made runs.. Sam Penford took two wickets and Tommy took a fine, sharp catch, standing up to Olly Elson.
The rain came during tea and the Belvoir target was reduced to 190 off 30 overs.Olly Elson and Gareth King started very well putting on 47 and Ed Limb and Sam Penford both showed some resistance but ultimatly the bowling was too good and we were all out for 124.
(below is a sequence of 6 photos of Gareth King hitting a huge 6)

Tuesday XI
Belvoir 124-3 (17) beat Barkby United 123-7 (18)

Tuesday XI return to winning ways!
A team with 3 Tuesday night debutants travelled to Barkby and were able to pick up a win, arresting the slide of three previous defeats.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Barkby made good early progress moving to 32 from 2.5 overs. The progress was checked from Olly Poole's final delivery of his second over when he rearranged the openers stumps, picking up his first Tuesday evening wicket! A second debutante, Kapil Dave was introduced into the attack following Fentems opening burst and immediately applied the pressure. Having conceded just one single in his opening 5 deliveries the pressure told and opener Vadgama played on for 27. Following an extremely impressive spell of 2-12 from 4 overs by Dave, it was evident that pace off the ball was the way forward with King introducing himself into the attack. The spin maintained the pressure on Barkby with more tight figures of 2-18 of his allotment of 4 overs. Some good fielding including a fantastic run out by Simon Poole meant Belvoir were able to restrict Barkby to just 123 in the 18 overs.

Belvoir's reply started poorly with Harland trapped leg before to the accurate bowling of Eales but that simply brought Fisher to the wicket. Penford (62*) and Fisher (37) put on 83 in just 10 overs to put Belvoir ahead with Penford striking the ball down the ground with real authority. Following Fishers departure; well caught in the ring, Barkby gained a glimmer of hope but it didn't last long as Penford continued along unabated whilst being well supported by first Chris Bealby and then Simon Poole as Belvoir won with an over to spare.

Belvoir 146-4 (18) beat Bingham 69 all out (13.3)

Belvoir batted first opening up with Oscar Brady (15) and Joe De’Ath (35) getting us off to a quick start. Will Bray (19) continued the momentum with Tommy Bealby (32 not out) which when added to some generous extras gave us a score of 146 for 4 off our 18 overs.

Bingham set about their chase with confidence but only one of their batsmen managed to occupy the crease for any length of time. Molly Marris (1 for 14) and Oliver Poole (2 for 13) took the early wickets before Kellan Poole (1 for 12) and Cameron Levey (2 for 0) ripped the heart out of Bingham. It was left to Oscar Brady (1 wicket from 3 balls) to complete wicket taking. Another good performance in the field too – fine catches from Oliver and Sammy Hardy. Bingham finished 69 all out.

A good win.

Belvoir 146-6 (18) lost to  Keyworth 157-2 (18)

This was always going to be a tough match (Keyworth won the league at U13 two years ago – beating Belvoir in the playoff final!). Keyworth batting first scored relatively quickly on a quick outfield. All of our bowlers put in a great performance without getting full value for their efforts. Kellan Poole (1 for 19) was the only bowler getting the wicket we deserved. A sharp piece of fielding by Liam Tew gave Tommy Bealby behind the stumps the only other wicket to fall – run out. Keyworth set a demanding 157 – 2 score to chase.

Aled King (20) set the Belvoir run chase off at a cracking pace plundering his 20 runs from the first over. Unfortunately Aled was bowled in the second over. Joe De’Ath (33)joined Liam Tew (14) and they set about keeping up with the required run rate. When Liam fell LBW Tommy Bealby (6) came in at 4 and was looking comfortable until he chipped a catch to mid on. Will Bray (29) added some momentum to the chase but it was starting to climb above 10 an over. Joe tried to pressure the fielders leading to his run out.

And so it came down to the last over and we needed 14 to win! Will tried to cross the ropes with ball 1 but despite a juggle long on held on to the catch. Oliver Poole, Jacob Marshall-Taylor and Joe Turnbull all tried to get the required runs but we fell just short finishing 146 for 6.

A great game of cricket – a fantastic run chase (just 11 runs short!).

Club History Snippets
Rory Kerr
In much the same way as we now finish the season with a T20 tournament the 1980s saw a regular September fixture between an XI put together by Vic and the Belvoir 1st XI.   Andy Mitchell, Tony Wade, David Storer and Pete Sears were all regular contributors. However, I thought it timely to recall one of these games and have chosen that played in 1988, thirty years ago.
Vic’s team batted and built steadily throughout their 40 overs against T Wade (1-32), C Scoffield (1-35) and A Mitchell (1-28) although the pick of the bowlers was C May (2-46).  The best of the batting came from J Mitchol (55), P Anger (49) and D Exton (36no).   The innings closed at 187-5.
In reply Belvoir’s two and three, D Airey (34) and D Storer (30) added 48 for the second wicket with Storer hitting 28 of his 30 runs in boundaries.  From then on the ball dominated. In particular the middle order and tail-end found the bowling of P Wright very tricky. The only resistance came from M Garret (23) and T Wade (13) who between them added 23 for the ninth wicket.  The match finished with 3 balls left and Belvoir all out for 147.
