We are pleased to invite you to the next two offerings in our a2ru circuits webinar series: next week's webinar on the impacts of arts-integrative and interdisciplinary practices on research universities will feature the a2ru research team who will present a high-level overview of findings, including our synthesis of the results of over 300 interviews with faculty and academic leadership at over 38 research universities. This webinar will also discuss resources for case-making, next-steps in our research process, and we’ll conclude by fielding questions and insights from participants.

Make sure to also save the date for the fall webinar geared toward our student audience discussing the various pathways to an interdisciplinary career. This webinar will feature four alum who have attended various a2ru Emerging Creatives Student Summits throughout the past few years.

This webinar includes alum from a2ru Emerging Creatives Student Summits discussing their interdisciplinary paths, experiences, and what they would like to have known or had in support of their educational goals as a student.

Program Solicitation: NEA Research Labs
Deadline: July 19

NEA Research Labs (“Research Labs”) seek to extend the NEA's five-year agenda and impact by cultivating a series of transdisciplinary research partnerships, grounded in the social and behavioral sciences, to produce and report empirical insights about the arts for the benefit of arts and non-arts sectors alike. The purpose of this Program Solicitation is to select an organization(s) (Cooperator) to undertake the Research Labs program

Creative Placemaking Summer Institute
July 23-August 3, 2018
University of Wisconsin-Madison 

While Creative Placemaking is a relatively new term, its practice is decades old, particularly in Wisconsin. We will explore this rich history, definitions, and current impacts of creative placemaking (also known as arts-based community development) in Wisconsin, the United States, and globally. The class will participate in active learning, with live examination of creative placemaking models, best practices and failures, evaluation and measures of success with guest artists and community practitioners engaged in this work across the state of Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota.

Association of American Colleges & Universities Annual Meeting Call for Proposals
Deadline: July 25

The Call for Proposals is now open for AAC&U’s 2019 Annual Meeting, which will be held January 23–26, 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia. The deadline for proposals is Wednesday, July 25. “Raising Our Voices: Reclaiming the Narrative on the Value of Higher Education” will highlight innovative practices and programs that demonstrate why higher education is essential for students’ future employability and for democratic vitality.

a2ru Emerging Creatives Student Challenge Grant Awarded

One interdisciplinary student team was awarded a Student Challenge Grant by the Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru) to pursue a project on developing a workshop on collaboration: “Makin’ Rain” was awarded project funding plus travel support and will develop a workshop method for honoring the process of creative thought across disciplines.

Decipher 2018: Design Educators Research Conference Call for Participation 
New Deadlines Announced!

Decipher is a hands-on design research conference brought to you by the AIGA Design Educators Community in partnership with the new Design as Research in the Americas Network. Decipher will address crucial themes of defining, doing, disseminating, supporting, and teaching design research. Hosted by the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan September 27-29, Decipher will address crucial themes of defining, doing, disseminating, supporting, and teaching design research.

Southern Oregon University 

The inaugural Creativity Conference will be held at Southern Oregon University and has something for everyone, including those who study the science of creativity, seek to leverage research on creative thinking, or simply consider themselves to becreative! Featuring keynote speakers Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and Robert Sternberg as well as invited addresses by Michael Mumford, Mark Runco, Marjorie Taylor, and Vlad Glaveanu and more. Join in on presentations on the latest in creativity research, representing a wide array of academic fields, as well as applied workshops providing working professionals opportunities to participate in hands-on activities designed to develop and leverage creativity in the workplace.
