News from Primary & Extended Day

We are enjoying the outdoor classroom. We are gardening, washing windows (with squeegees of course), painting, building fairy houses, and doing earth art. Our bird feeders are active with gold finches, house finches, red wing black birds, and cardinals. We are singing all of our favorite songs that we learned this year along with songs from the fabulous Mary Poppins.

The Extended Day children started going to recess on the Field of Dreams with the older children and are getting excited for the Junior Level. We are all feeling older and ready for new experiences. We are also noticing that our taste buds are maturing. We read Bad Case of Stripes and absolutely loved it. In the story we learned that the main character loves Lima beans but most children had never heard of them and were desperate to try them. The next day we served Lima beans for snack. Every child tasted the Lima beans and almost everyone loved them.

We wish you all a summer full of new adventures and delicious discoveries!

News from Junior Level

Another school year had come and flown, and we are so grateful to have shared this time with the beautiful children you have placed in our care. The Bears have become Tigers, Tigers become Lions, and the Lions have, as they do, moved on.  It is always with some sadness that we watch our Lions transition, as we have had the honor of spending three whole years with them. Yet, as with the seasons, this cycle happens each spring and each fall, a fresh group of Bears arrives and our small community forms anew, the returning children holding in them the customs and traditions of all the classes before.  This year wrapped up, full of joy and celebration: field trips galore, ceremonies, mini-courses, afternoons in the field of dreams, documentaries and fabulous performances - What a year!! Wishing all a peaceful summer of renewal and exploration!

News from Upper Level

Upper Level has been busy with the musical and mini-courses this month.  All Upper Level students had the chance to participate in Mary Poppins, Jr. in four different ways.  Some created the scenery and props in a mini-course with Dawn and Julie. Many students auditioned and were engaged in daily rehearsals.  Eleven of our third years had jobs as stage crew, lighting and video-taping. Finally a group of students crafted documentaries on the making of the musical.  Bravo to all the hard work put in by each group to make this year’s musical an amazing experience.

This week we finally had the chance to finish our group presentations from our big trip.  We especially want to thank all the parents and grandparent who chaperoned this trip. From the presentations, it is clear how valuable and educational this trip was for our students.

Our second year students met with Deb from the Johnson and were able to see all the Greek masks made there last month during the field trip.

We celebrated our  fourteen third years students who have completed their elementary education on Tuesday.  They are to be applauded for the leadership they have shared with the younger students this year.  They have been wonderful models and will be missed by our community next year.

Please look for information about summer assignments in reading, math and keyboarding.

We wish everyone a great summer and will be anxiously awaiting the promise of a new school year.

News from Middle School

Yesterday, the entire school community gathered for Middle School Commencement.  What an amazing morning it was for us to honor and celebrate this year’s 15 graduates.  Over the last week or so, all of the classes have had special picnics and ceremonies to recognize students who are moving from one class to another within the school.  We leave Middle School’s ceremony for last.  Whereas in moving up ceremonies in our younger classes and at Upper Level’s graduation teachers speak about each child, our school’s rite of passage for our oldest students is to ask them to speak for themselves.  By the time students in our school get to be second year Middle Schoolers, they have developed the skills and the confidence to do that.  Yesterday, our graduates gave voice to important aspects of their personal visions, how they define themselves and how the school has supported their journeys.  Their speeches were incredibly diverse, often poignant and profound, and gave us no doubt that they’d been shaped deeply by their time at EAC.
