Mid-June news and events

Friends,

Are you someone with roots/futures in this region who is interested in offering group nonviolence trainings in the coming years? The Whatcom Peace & Justice Center is holding a nonviolence study group this summer and fall. We are currently looking for participants who would be willing to attend the 12 study group meetings this summer and fall, and then take part in a training for nonviolence trainers. Be in touch in the next two weeks if you want to take part.

In peace,

Oppose bill to stifle campus free speech on Palestine

It would be great if Congress passed legislation to confront antisemitism, along with all other forms of racism, bigotry, and discrimination against Black, brown, indigenous, immigrant, disabled, Muslim, and Jewish people. Unfortunately, that's not happening.

Instead, a bill recently reintroduced in Congress, S.2940/H.R.5924, purports to combat antisemitism, but its real intent is to conflate criticism of Israel and advocacy for Palestinian rights on college campuses with anti-Jewish bigotry.

Contact our Congressional delegation and let them know you oppose this legislation.

Ask Rick Larsen to co-sponsor HR 1299, the Berta Caceres Human Rights in Honduras Act

Over two years after Indigenous and social movement leader Berta Caceres was brutally murdered in Honduras, the intellectual authors have yet to be brought to justice.

Furthermore, the repression against environmental, Indigenous, social, student and other activists continues, as does U.S. financing of the Honduran military and security forces. Call on Rep. Rick Larsen to co-sponsor HR 1299, the Berta Caceres Human Rights in Honduras Act, which would suspend U.S. military and security aid to Honduras.
