Home seller supply grows as demand declines

With home sale activity dipping below long-term historical averages, the supply of homes for sale in Metro Vancouver* reached a three-year high in June.

The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) reports that residential home sales in the region totalled 2,425 in June 2018, a 37.7 per cent decline from the 3,893 sales recorded in June 2017, and a 14.4 per cent decrease compared to May 2018 when 2,833 homes sold.

Last month’s sales were 28.7 per cent below the 10-year June sales average.

“Buyers are less active today. This is allowing the supply of homes for sale to accumulate to levels we haven’t seen in the last few years,” Phil Moore, REBGV president said. “Rising interest rates, high prices and more restrictive mortgage requirements are among the factors dampening home buyer activity today.”

4 Quick Cleaning Hacks That Will Let You Spend More Time Outside This Summer

Regardless of the time of year, cleaning probably isn’t topping the list of things you’re excited about, and that is especially true when the sun is shining outside. Use these tips to reduce the time you spend cleaning and increase the time you spend enjoying the summer.

De-stink your sink

Over time, food can build up in your garbage disposal and cause a smell. To clean the disposal blades and banish the smell, throw in some ice cubes and a few tablespoons of salt, before running the disposal for a few minutes.

Microwave lemon juice

It may sound odd, but microwaving a bowl of lemon juice until it starts to boil (between 30 seconds and 3 minutes, depending on your microwave) will soften burnt-on food residue. Then, you can simply wipe it off — all thanks to the citric acid!

Make your dishwasher do double-time

Your dishwasher can also be used to clean bathroom items, such as the soap dish, toothbrush holder and drinking cups. Just put them in, and leave the machine running while you head out into the sunshine.

Use a lint roller on lampshades

Dust often goes unnoticed on lampshades, but fear not, using a lint roller is an easy way to remove that dust without spreading it around.
