Learning around Avonmore this week

The children in Nursery this week have been captivated by the multitude of mini beasts in the Reception planting area. They are becomming gentle observers of nature.

Reception followed instructions to make strawberry and blueberry milkshakes. They learnt how to handle equipment safely, cut pieces of fruit into halves and measured out ingredients correctly.

In Year 1 this week we have been identifying and sorting a variety of wonderful garden and wild plants. We are nearly experts now at naming lots of different plants!

What a busy week Year 2 has had! As well as our usual writing , maths and reading lessons we also went on a bug hunt in the park and performed a brilliant our class assembly.

Year 3 have been using their knowledge of Egyptian Hieroglyphics, to create their own based on numbers and shapes.

Year 4 have been sorting 3D shapes in Maths- using mathematical vocabulary such as face, edge and vertices to describe the properties of these shapes.

Year 5 have been working collaboratively to solve some very difficult maths challenges-using lots of reasoning and explaining to solve the problems.

Year 6 finished their last piece of Hunger Games writing and they should all be incredibly proud of the work they have produced. They also enjoyed a day at the Hayward gallery looking at Lee Bull's work and a day at Imperial College investigating light.

FRIENDS OF AVONMORE
Giles Cummings, father of Noah (Y2) has agreed to chair the Friends of Avonmore and is actively seeking willing helpers to join the committee. The Friends of Avonmore have raised considerable amounts of money in the past which has allowed the school to invest in important resources such as play equipment and iPads.Giles is keen to continue this invaluable work and raise lots of much-needed money to give our children the best possible opportunities. If you are interested in helping out, please come along to meet Giles and Helen Isaac (our new treasurer) on Monday 25th June at 8.50am for a chat and a cup of coffee!

Through our work with the Ogden Trust we have been introduced to the Institute of Physics who have been carrying out research and producing reports and videos on improving the gender balance of Science and Technology career options. Click here to find out more.

This is the last gardening session before the London in Bloom judging

on 5th July
They will be getting the gardens looking as fabulous as possible
Weeding, watering, cleaning, tidying, aphid zapping, tending to the plants.
