In ‘Text Message’, Busy Signal makes excellent use of iPhone samples and abbreviations like OMG and LOL, but the story is what you really want– it’s just him complaining about girls who text voraciously and refuse to call. Frustrated by frequency and their inability to spell, he makes burn after burn about their use of WhatsApp. Total cranky dad commentary on our digital world– if cranky dad is a super attractive reggae star. Do you guys follow @_Personals_? It’s this woman who’s been posting 80s-style, text-only personal ads for womxn seeking womxn. It’s popular enough that she wants to turn it into an app, which would look a lot like the instagram account, only searchable, and filtered by location. Seems pretty sweet– beyond being a judgment-free zone sans photos (where people connect over their use of *words*, no less), it would give a home to personals in the Craigslist-killing age of FOSTA. If you’re into it, you can help make it a thing. Everybody is loving the instagram screenshots from the Notes app. Is it that we just need a little more space, or is this a recoil from our image-only internet culture? (former, prob. bummer.) Either way, I found this hilarious Macworld piece from 2016 about how Taylor Swift and Amy Schumer etc. were drafting their posts this way, and WHICH APP HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE THE GO-TO FOR TEXT POSTS. Whelp, we’ve seen the future and it’s still Notes.
