It's that time of year again! This will be the the 4th annual summer ami-along and I am one of the participating designers this year. If you are new to the ami-along, basically it is a crochet and knitting event in which everyone who joins in makes amigurumi from the participating designers during the summer. This year there are 18 different designers taking part - so I am sure you will find something to make!

It all takes place on ravelry, so join the group, check out the patterns you can use by browsing the group's pattern bundle, and get ready! One of the best parts? All the patterns, from all designers, will be on sale (25% off) starting before the event (June 25-July 8), so you have time to prepare. PLUS there are prizes. I will be giving away one of my handmade project bags.

I plan to make some little foods by Alyssa of Monster's Toy Box (who I interviewed previously!). I will start with her healthy snacks, and then move on to the garden (veggie) snacks. If I have time I will also make her munchie monster to eat them all! I just love these patterns. I have made some of them before for my neice and nephew (see photo below), but this time they will be for my son!
I know it is hard to believe, but I have a new pattern out! Meet Filip the Horse. His head and body are all one piece, so all you need to attach are his legs and ears, plus hook in some hair (which is easy!).

His snout and hooves are crocheted through both loops, while the rest of the body is through the back loops only, giving him different textures. This also adds some variety while crocheting! Have fun playing around with differerent colours for these sections (maybe a different coloured muzzle?? cute!), as well as the mane and tail.

Just because it's fun:

Check out this crochet blog I just discovered. I want to read about everything!

Amigurumipatterns.net's ami-along this month is super sweet - a mallard duck and his baby sister.

Love Stranger Things (I do!!), then check out this crocheted Demo-dog.

A free (and cute) butterfly pattern by Spin A Yarn that has a unique construction - you don't often see an amigurumi knit in rows. Her grasshopper would make a great companion, too.

Some very detailed crocheted food platters. Enough said.

For all those fellow Canadian crocheters out there, check these maple leaves out: by Spin A Yarn (again!) and by FreshStitches. Make them before July 1st!

Ami designers:

I discovered a new amigurumi business, Tiny Rabbit Hole, after reading this article. They are doing so much to spread the love of amigurumi in Singapore with workshops and events - plus their patterns are rediculously adorable. The T-rex has a girlfriend!

An audio podcast with guest amigurumi designer Coco Crochet Lee - she talks about her experiences as a designer, with lots of tips.

Amigurumi techniques:

Another fantastic tutorial by June of Planet June - this time it's all about yarn tension and hook size (spoiler: you don't have to pull on your yarn for nice tight stitches!).

Guest writer Mirena on the blog Shiny Happy World (previously on FreshStitches) described a technique for joining standing legs in amis so that you don't get a hole.

Tools, notions, books, and yarn:

Mohu has an adorable amigurumi book coming out next month. I absolutely love making simple little amis, and this book has great patterns to do just that!
Sorry for the last hiatus! My life has been very full lately. Since I last touched base with all of you, my son was born! He has stolen my heart and is my whole world right now - plus he is cute to boot! You can have a look on my instagram account @hookabee_meganb

I have been taking some time off to care for my newborn, but all the while I have been deaming of hookabee and the designs I want to put down in writing. I hope to film a new video podcast soon to show you what I have been designing.

My sewing machine has also been in use lately. If you have been waiting to get your hands on one of my project bags, mark your calendars for an update Tuesday morning at 10 am EST. I only have a handful (mostly large ones), but I have several more in the pipeline, all cut and ready to be sewn. Once I get back into my designing, I am not sure how frequently I will be making bags, so get one if you want one.

Until next time,

P.S. I think I want every one of these enamel pins and this (though I wish the list wasn't so long!!)
