Let's do Lunch

After retirement,  many Collins retirees continue friendships that had been established at work.  This is often associated with breakfast or lunch.  We have started a listing of some mostly-social gatherings that have been established by Collins retirees.  If your group is open to more members and want to added to this listing,  send the information in an email to news@rcrv.org.

What's in Your Basement that could be in the Museum?

After working for 20, 30 or even 40 years on very exciting state-of-the-art equipment, it is not unusual that some manuals, documents or even equipment models somehow ended up in your basement.  The Rockwell Collins Museum would be very happy to take this stuff off your hands to add to their collection.
Contact Terry Lamb at trlamb33@mediacombb.net  or  319-393-3586 if you are ready to give your stuff a new home.

The museum is opened for tours every Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Come to the south entrance to Building 120 to get a temporary badge and the guard will call a docent to be your escort and museum guide.

Cedar Amateur Astronomers is looking for Volunteers

The Eastern Iowa Observatory and Leaning Center (EIOLC) receives between 2500 and 3000 visitors a year.  To manage these visitors, in addition to telescope operators and astronomy enthusiasts they need volunteers acting as hosts, exhibit docents and organizational representatives.  If you are interested contact inquiries@Cedar-Astronomers.org or attend any of the public events listed at

New Medicare Cards being delivered in Iowa

Remember the following in regards to these new Medicare cards:
  • The cards will come in an envelope from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • The cards will have a new number unrelated to your Social Security Number.
  • We don't know the order of mailing in Iowa.  They will be mailed out over several weeks so not everyone will receive their cards at the same time.
  • CMS is telling beneficiaries to destroy their old card (shred or burn) and begin using their new cards right away.
  • The Medicare.gov  Plan Finder, providers and insurance companies will accept either the old or new number through 2019
As the new Medicare cards are being mailed, people with Medicare should look out for scams and follow these tips:
  • Medicare will never contact you for your Medicare number or other personal information so you can obtain your new Medicare card
  • Don’t pay for your new Medicare card. It’s free. If anyone calls or approaches you and says you need to pay for it, that’s a scam.
  • Guard your card. When you get your new card, safeguard it like you would health insurance or credit cards.
  • Only give your new Medicare Number to doctors, pharmacists, other health care providers, your insurers, or people you trust to work with Medicare on your behalf.
  • If you feel that you are the target of a Medicare card scam, please report it to the SHIIP office 1-800-351-4664 .
