AT Tip:
Winning a Quarterly AT Award

Oklahoma ABLE Tech offers 4 quarterly awards as well as one yearly award for SoonerStart personnel who are actively demonstrating assistive technology (AT) to the families they serve.  There are only 5 criteria to be eligible to win one of the $500 quarterly awards.  The first criterion is that the SoonerStart county reported more AT demonstrations than in the previous quarter. The second criterion is that the SoonerStart county indicates at least an 85% rate of satisfied or above on the reporting form for all demonstrations that quarter.  Indicating if AT will meet the needs of the child/family who received the demonstration, even if it is not for that particular piece of AT is the third criterion.  Having more than one discipline report is the fourth criterion, and the final criterion is that a success story must be submitted.  The success story can be completed and submitted online.  Click here for a link to submitting a success story:  https://okabletech.formstack.com/forms/success_story_photo_release_consent_form

One of our recent quarterly winners from Comanche County purchased the following with some of their award money.  The Abiie Beyond high chair with seat cushion and tray, Building Verbal Imitation in Toddlers, Teach me to Play with You, and Teach Me to Listen and Obey.

Pediatric Items Available!

Tomato Car SeatOklahoma ABLE Tech operates the Oklahoma Equipment Exchange (OEE) program to transfer durable medical equipment (DME) items that have been previously, gently used and are now available for other young children in need.

OEE currently has a Child-Special Tomato Car Seat MPS, size small available for sale.  The Special Tomato Small MPS (Multi-Positioning Seat) Car Seat provides proper seating support for your child that has been crash tested and is safe for use in the car. It is a soft, lightweight and durable seating surface with cushions that allow for customized support. The cushion moves up and down on a hook and loop track allowing for growth of your child and provides proper alignment of the child’s pelvis.

OEE also has a child-Special Tomato Jogger Stroller.  It is a lightweight jogging style stroller pushchair, weighing only 27 lbs.

Tomato Jogger StrollerWhether your busy lifestyle takes you through city streets or rugged outdoor trails, the Special Tomato Jogger will provide optimal comfort and support for your child’s special needs. The Special Tomato Jogger is an easy folding, lightweight, all terrain stroller pushchair for children with mild to moderate physical involvement.  This special needs all-terrain jogging stroller comes standard with a functional rear suspension, ensuring a smooth ride over most surfaces. The swivel front tire makes maneuvering in tight indoor spaces a breeze, too. For straight line strolling and rougher terrain, the front wheel can be locked inline easily.  The Special Tomato Jogger stroller was expertly designed to meet the comfort and support needs of each child in a convenient, easy-to-use, compact folding system for their parents and caregivers. The Special Tomato Jogger stroller can be used for casual strolling and light jogging. With its folding frame and quick release pneumatic tires, the Special Tomato Jogger fits compactly into the trunk of most cars with minimal effort.  The padded seat back can be adjusted anywhere from 10° through 15° from the upright as needed to increase postural support and stability. And it can also be set at a 50° recline for relaxation and naps. By adding the optional Soft Touch™ Liner back and seat pads (sold separately), the Special Tomato Jogger will provide additional lateral trunk and pelvic support for improved upright seated positioning. The Jogger can be folded with the Soft Touch™ Liner back and seat cushions installed.

ABLE Tech realizes the liability concerns that may surround using equipment that has already been used and encourages those acquiring the items to have equipment checked out by a DME Provider with expertise in the area of the device.

Per OEE policies and procedures: ABLE Tech shall not be liable for any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, expenses (including but not limited to settlements, judgments, court costs and reasonable attorney's fees) fines and penalties, arising out of any actual or alleged injury, loss, or damage of any nature whatsoever in connection with the sale or use of any device donated, purchased or sold under the OEE.

If you choose to obtain a piece (or pieces) of DME on behalf of children you serve, please consider the above stipulations as you take on the responsibility of the safety of the child regarding the use of the equipment.
The OEE currently has several DME items available for children to assist with mobility/seating/positioning, to see a full list please visit:
