Glass Pathways Installation at the MUD Site Tomorrow!
June 22 / 9am-1pm / @ MUD
MUD is installing repurposed glass pathway at this volunteer event & community social. Crushed, tumbled glass sourced from Missoula’s (I.E.) Recycling will be used as a permeable walkway that is both beautiful and functional. Glass cullet will be poured into a cell-web substrate made of hard recycled plastic that forms a stable & accessible surface. Using GravelPave2 substrate, this project is a demonstration of how we can use a waste product to create porous pathways in Missoula’s parks and community spaces. Permeable pathways mean that rain water replenishes our aquifer instead of being diverted to storm drains.
Volunteers will help us prepare the site, lay out the GravelPave2 substrate, and create a design with multicolored tumbled glass. Von Common, a nonprofit that provides space and camaraderie in a community of artists, will be facilitating the glass design for the day. Von Common is a neighbor to MUD, also housed in the River Road neighborhood down Missoula’s sustainability strip on Wyoming St.
The MUD Glass Pathways project is made possible with support from the Office of Neighborhoods & Community Forum. The glass pathways at MUD are intended to demonstrate more ways to further our community's efforts towards Zero Waste.
