New Fees and Charges
From 1st July 2018, Rotorua Lakes Council (RLC) will increase the fees to meet rising costs associated with processing, checking consents, and sundry charges.
Full details will appear on our web site on the morning of July 1st, approximate increase will be 2.7%.
The new fees will only apply to any consent that is received on or after that date.

Inspection Booking Number
Remember, you need to arrange for all the inspections that have been estimated and are listed as conditions in your Building Consent.
The direct dial number to call for inspections is 07 349 5646.
You must quote your Building Consent number when booking inspections, and remember also that you or your agent/builder etc, needs to attend and/or be on site for any inspections with the consent documents.

Moisture Testing
Moisture testing forms part of the inspection process, in particular at the Pre-line Building inspection, prior to lining or on the discovery of potential leaking problems.
Moisture meters are calibrated to ensure their accuracy so correct moisture contents are measured, and RLC has just completed the six-monthly calibration process.
Reminder - coming into the winter months, cooler temperatures means timber members may take longer to dry out, mixing of different types of products, LVL, SG8 can have different correction values across the same wall plane.
Driveways
Driveways and other paved hard stand surfaces shown on Building Consent applications need to show compliance with NZBC E1/AS1 for the storm-water disposal.
The Functional Requirement of NZBC E1/AS1 states under E1.2 Buildings and sitework shall be constructed in a way that protects people and other property from the adverse effects of surface water.

In practical terms, this means that driveways need to show:
- drainage (silt traps discharging to soak pits)
- falls/gradients directing surface water run-off to silt traps
- finished surface levels (to meet the NZ Building Code Section E2 requirements, and
- details of access route paving, acceptable solution NZBC D1/AS1 Table 2 gives acceptable finish types for wet and dry, level and sloping surfaces, for pavements with public access.

If the driveway siteworks are not part of a Building Consent application, the actual driveway is not consentable, however the drainage works as noted above is consentable site works.
It is the responsibility of the owner and contractors carrying out this work to ensure compliance is achieved with the Building Code.

Vehicle Crossings and Corridor Access Request (CAR) may be required, please refer to Road Corridor Access on Council's website for further information on Vehicle Crossings and requirements.
