I have been moved by our members this year with many generous donations coming in. We have just seven days to raise another $6,000 to reach our goal. This year you may know, we are raising funds for a specific purpose: to upgrade our old, hot, and inefficient lighting system. We've got a local Townsville business as our partner for the upgrade which will save us money down the track in electricity expenses, but it is costly and we need your support to get it done. Take a look at some of the benefits of the new LED based lighting!
Every donation helps us to reach more artists and audiences. This is my seventh year at Umbrella Studio. What I have seen here is nothing short of magical. I've seen something like 182 exhibitions. I've seen buyers connect with an artwork, and I've seen artists make their first sale. Some of the young people involved have gone on to study arts at TAFE or University, or applied for their own exhibition or public artwork. I am very proud of the work we do here.
Arts graduates face challenging employment conditions, with the lowest employment prospects of any field of study (source). We believe this can be improved. In fact, Umbrella employs three arts graduates in its permanent staff, and many more casually for workshops. We have no plans to stop our cultural crusade!
But we do need your support to continue doing these things. Sales commissions and workshop fees cannot cover our operation costs, and we want to rely less on government funding which can fluctuate depending on which party is in leadership. There's something in it for you too: we are a registered charity and can provide you with a tax deductible gift receipt for anything over $2.
