Dear Supporters,
Two months ago, I reached out to you with news from Nicaragua in regards to the government issued reforms that sparked protests throughout the country. Following several weeks of violent protests, a national dialogue was held among the president, church leaders, opposition leaders, and students, which unfortunately ended without a resolution. Once again protests with violent reactions erupted causing major civil instability across all of Nicaragua, growing every day.
There have been an increasing number of news articles about this Nicaraguan crisis, and we wanted to report out how this is affecting EOS staff, beneficiaries, and Nicaraguan communities.
- Protesting has continued and is focused in major cities throughout the country.
- EOS has recommended that our staff travel to the field only when necessary due to the increased travel risk.
- Our staff’s safety is our first priority, and we are doing everything in our power to minimize risks for them. We have set up temporary remote offices to accommodate our staff not based near our main headquarters.
- Roadblocks are set up on all major roads throughout the country. When necessary, our staff have been able to travel on motorcycles to expedite the roadblock passing process to reach our beneficiaries.
- Travel constraints have made EOS' job more difficult, but our hardworking, dedicated team has continued to find creative solutions to continue our mission of providing clean water and income generating solutions to rural communities.
