UNITED FOR MENTAL HEALTH  
The Behavioral Health Action Coalition - a group of more than 50 organizations - united in Sacramento on June 19 to call on lawmakers to make behavioral health a priority. See the video.
BLACK MENTAL HEALTH
Using mental health survey data and a database of police shootings, a team of health researchers concluded that when police officers in the United States kill unarmed black people, it damages the mental health of black Americans living in those states. Learn more

Talking About: Suicide Prevention
Earlier this month, the world lost fashion icon Kate Spade and popular chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain to suicide. In the days that followed, many took to social media to mourn, to reveal their own struggles and to send messages of hope and help. These conversations are vital opportunities to offer support and compassion to others, and to seek support for ourselves. On June 24, CNN broadcast a live town hall on suicide prevention. Hosted by Anderson Cooper, who lost his brother to suicide, the panel included mental health advocate and actress, Glenn Close, along with political advisors David Axelrod and Karl Rove who both lost a parent to suicide. Watch now.
June is PTSD Awareness Month
According to Mental Health America (MHA), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a common mental health condition affecting more than 14 million American adults and children. It may occur as a response to a traumatic event, such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, car accidents or childhood abuse or neglect. MHA offers an online PTSD screening, information and resources. Go to the screening
