Tim Haran | Utah Beer News

Welcome.

Hello and welcome to the first Utah Beer News email update. Thank you for subscribing! It really means a lot. My plan for the email list is to message you sparingly and with substance.

So let’s get to it!

My name is Tim Haran. I started UtahBeerNews.com in late April 2018. My background is in journalism and social media (read my full bio). My hope is that the site will become a place to not only provide the latest Utah craft beer news, but also a spot to read (and hear and view) compelling stories centered on the craft beer community.

Take a look at last week at Utah Beer News...

Monday: In the Lab at Shades Brewing Co.

Trent Fargher and Marcio Buffolo of Shades Brewing
Shades Brewing Co.’s Trent Fargher and Marcio Buffolo sat down to discuss a fascinating yeast strain with ancient roots. Read and watch how they’re using it to make award-winning sour beers.

Tuesday: Touring Mountain West Hard Cider

Mountain West Hard Cider Year-Round Lineup
I ran into Laci Brown at an event where she and her team were pouring Mountain West Hard Cider. She arranged for an interview at the Mountain West cidery in Salt Lake’s Marmalade District. Look for an article on the site in the coming days.
Coming Soon

Wednesday: Hops Hunters Hikes in Summit County

Hops Hunters Hikes | Summit Land Conservancy and Wasatch Brewery
Did you know wild hops dating to the late 1800s grow in the mountains of Summit County? And that the hops originally served as “advertisements” for Park City’s red light district? I learned that and much more by talking with Julia McCarrier Edwards of the Summit Land Conservancy. Take one of the group's Hops Hunters Hikes this summer and I bet you’ll learn even more.

Original Grain Brewmaster Watch

Thursday: Birthday

I celebrated my 41st birthday and my wife gave me a gorgeous Original Grain Brewmaster watch. It’s stunning. She also gave me a nifty keg cooler that I can’t wait to try out at an upcoming party.

Uinta Brewing at the Utah Arts Festival

Friday: Utah Arts Fest

My favorite local festival is the Utah Arts Festival. On Friday I volunteered for a few hours to help share the excitement on social media. I returned that evening to enjoy a couple beers from Uinta Brewing Company, the festival’s presenting beer sponsor.

Toaste Barrel Brewery | Opening Night

Saturday: Toasted Barrel

Utah’s newest brewery opened in the Marmalade District (near Mountain West Hard Cider and Red Rock Brewery). Toasted Barrel Brewery specializes in barrel-aged sour beers. My wife and I visited the brewery’s grand-opening event and enjoyed a flight of four sours and Saisons.

Beer Bar | Salt Lake City

Sunday: Beer Bar

We rewarded our morning of yard work with a movie (American Animals 👍🏼👍🏼) followed by a sausage and beer at Beer Bar.

The bar buzzed with excitement as the Travel Channel’s #FoodParadise "Hottest Dogs" piece featuring Beer Bar aired.

Thank You!

I’m thrilled about the response Utah Beer News has received so far! Thank you again for subscribing and please let your beer-loving friends know about us.

I’d like to reward our initial subscribers (and those who made it to the bottom of the email). Simply send an email to tim@utahbeernews.com by June 27, 2018 with the name of your favorite Salt Lake-area brewery. Two random winners will receive a logo item from their favorite local brewery. I'll announce the lucky recipients on social media when I return from Homebrew Con in Portland, Ore.

Cheers,
Tim
