Bringing Neighbors Together to Build Community
Paco Sanchez Park Opens in West Colfax

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Paco Sanchez Park at 1290 Knox Ct. opened phase 1 of its new playground in June and it has been an awesome addition to our neighborhood! Right down the street from the Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales library, its a great space for neighbors to come together, play, and build community. Check it out this summer!

Kind Regards,

Leah Rounds & Dave Justice

WeCAN Co-Presidents

SLOANS Community Garden Steering Committee - July 14

An invitation to join the SLOANS Community Garden Steering Committee from EnviroFinance Group (EFG):

"We are excited to be nearing completion of the SLOANS Community Garden and are seeking experienced and motivated gardeners to spearhead the garden activities year to year.  The garden is located on the north side of Conejos Street between Raleigh and Stuart Streets (4273 W Conejos Place) and has 50 raised bed garden plots ranging in size from 3’x3’ to 5’x7’.  Plots are available to anyone that lives, works or owns a business at SLOANS or in the surrounding West Colfax / South Sloan’s Lake neighborhoods. As a first step, we are looking to form a community steering committee that can take the lead."

If you’d like to be part of a steering committee, please reach out to Sarah (slaverty@efg-bp.com) no later than Monday July 9th.  EFG will host a garden meet & greet on Saturday July 14th, at 9am, please meet us under the pergola at the garden.

In case you missed it: Slot homes are over

On May 7, Denver City Council approved a zoning change to address the proliferation of "slot homes" — sideways-facing rowhomes. The changes will ensure future multi-family infill projects engage the public realm, consider neighborhood character, address human scale, and minimize negative effects on pedestrians and neighboring properties.

The changes are the result of research and recommendations by city planners and a community task force. Together, the group sought to improve outcomes for neighborhoods while ensuring equity, flexibility and predictability for builders. Learn more at denvergov.org/slothomes.
