Spring Steelhead, New Fly Patterns, Destination Travel, Fly Show and More!
Any River...Anytime SM
Hello Anglers,
Summer has arrived and so have the mayfly hatches. It has been a good dry fly season so far. We've had good hatches and fish have been eating them. In addition to the dry fly fishing the bay is rocking, smallmouth are on the beds and carp are moving in.

Below you will see a video by Jon Ray on an easy way to dry a fly after it becomes waterlogged and won't float. When the hatch is on this is an invaluable tool to get you back in the game quickly.

It's hard to believe but fall is just around the corner. Here come our migratory fish, king, coho salmon and the mighty fall steelhead. Below you will find a link to an article entitled "Fly Friendly Salmon". Give it a read. In addition I've just had a cancellation on the Garden River which I will outline below.

Our Argentina trips, both trout and Dorado, are just about six months away. We still have three spots open on the dorado trip with Jon Ray and Ed McCoy. You'll have a great time fishing with these two and the dorado. I outline what I have in Patagonia for trout below. It's  during  the very best dry season in Patagonia!

July and August is hopper and other terrestrial time. This is when the Pine and Pere Marquette really shine. Read more about this below.

As I said earlier fall is just around the corner. If you want salmon or steelhead dates you need to call ASAP. We are heavily booked already. Call Cherie at 231-228-7135 to get your dates lined up

We've had a very busy season so far, lots of trips in the books. Thanks to all of you we get to pursue our passions and make a living doing it.

My crew are professionals. They care more about you, your learning curve and your trip than they do about catching fish themselves. Whether it's trout, steelhead, salmon, smallmouth, panfish, pike or muskie, Hawkins Outfitters has experts to help you learn and be successful.

Come and join us on Any River...Anytime!

Michigan Hatches are short lived, you have sometimes only minutes to maximize your opportunity.  This Guide Tip, is how to Dry your Dry Fly with the use of a Rubber Band.
Garden River Availability

Garden RiverA recent date change has created an opening for Salmon fishing on the Garden River First Nation. This is private salmon and steelhead fishing on an indian reservation suitable and is suitable for children and adults. This is my 21st year fishing the reserve. The Garden has a great run of pink salmon, a favorite of kids and adults.

The openings are September 18-20 and 23-25. At this time we still have pinks left, kings will be around and hopefully steelhead and cohos are on the way. This can be a two day trip for kids or three day adult trips.

The cost is $1000 for one adult with a child, $500 for each additional child for two days of fishing. Three day trips for adults are $995. All trips include use of rods, reels, lunch and travel to and from the reserve. You need to provide waders and polarized sunglasses. Chuck Hawkins and his native friends will be your guides.

This is a great trip for beginners and experienced anglers alike. Join us for an unforgettable experience, private salmon and steelhead!
Golden Dorado with Jon Ray and Ed McCoy

Join Jon and Ed chasing golden dorado Jan 5- 12th, 2019

Dorado from 4 to 40 pounds are available in addition to a number of other species. Fishing is both surface and subsurface depending on conditions and the fish you are pursuing. Check out this video, it will give you a great idea of what's in store for those that come.

The cost is $4,750 for 6 days of fishing and 7 nights of lodging. Fishing, lodging, license, beer and wine are included. Airfare, gratuities and laundry are not included.

Jon and Ed have 3 spots left so if interested jump quickly.

Terrestrials on the Pine and Pere Marquette

July and August are terrestrial time. Hoppers, beatles, ants and damselflies provide explosive action during the dog days of summer.

Well placed foam bugs that are animated can bring the big boys out. In addition to the big ones average fish are on the prowl and usually give a large bite volume.

The Pine and Pere Marquette are our Hopper Fishingbest hopper waters usually yielding both good numbers and some very good daytime fish.

One of our favorite patterns on the Pine and Pere Marquette rivers in July and August is the Chernobyl hopper tied in many different colors to match the hoppers on the land where we are fishing.

Go to this Step-by-Step video and watch Ed tie a Chernobyl hopper. Then head to your favorite trout spot, catch a couple of hoppers and imitate their color. That's what we do!

After the Hex hatch most anglers put their rods and waders away. Don't make that mistake, join us for some daytime thrills!
2Dragonflies will be hatching in Patagonia!

A couple of years ago my son, Zach (pictured above with a 26 inch brown taken on a dry dragonfly) and I along with 8 clients went to Patagonia a day or two after Christmas. We experienced the most incredible dry fly fishing. I've never seen anything like it. Dragonflies hatching near the reeds and trout going nuts to get them. Many of the rises were so explosive that the fish would come straight out of the water two feet in the air.

All of the details are on this page but the basics are....
Pick any seven nights or more between Dec 27th and Jan 7,2019.
Costs are $5250 for seven nights, six and one half days fishing all inclusive except flights and gratuities.
Additional days are $765/day.

If these dates don't work for you we can customize any trip any time of the year.

I'll be there Dec 27th to Jan 7th, come and join me for the best dry fly fishing ever!
