TVWB Celebrates 20 Years Online
|
|
TVWB celebrated its 20th anniversary on June 12, 2018. It's hard to believe that the website is 20 years old!
Back In June 1998...
- Gas was $1.03/gallon.
- Michael Jordan played his last game with the Chicago Bulls.
- Microsoft released Windows 98.
- Seinfeld had just finished its final season on television.
- Google did not exist as a company.
- There was no such thing as blogs, podcasts, Flickr, or YouTube.
- My hair was mostly brown, not mostly gray...and I had a lot more of it!
It seems like only yesterday that I started on this barbecue adventure. If you're interested in learning about how The Virtual Weber Bullet came to be, read on.

Make-Believe Mailbag
Russ T. Hunter from Steel City, IL writes, "I just bought a used Weber Smokey Mountain. Cleaned it up, replaced some screws and such because they were rusted badly, and smoked on it yesterday. However, I am getting rust build-up again on

everything—the new screws, the water pan, the grill straps, etc. Anyone have this happen and have a solution?"
This is probably the #1 "problem" Weber hears about from new customers. What you're seeing is a build-up of smoke/grease/water residue that is a normal part of barbecuing with the WSM.
If you barbecue with water in the pan, the residue tends to be brown in color and may dry up and flake off with time. When you see this inside the lid, brush it off so it doesn't fall onto your food, or rinse with a garden hose and brush the area to remove residue.
If you barbecue without water in the pan, the residue tends to be black in color and it can go much longer before flaking...but it may eventually flake off, too. When this happens, do as described above.
Before each cook, it's a good idea to check the condition inside the lid and to brush-down the middle cooking section into the charcoal bowl to remove any flakes there, too.
