I've found that meditating is one of those things that people
assume you do when you’re a yogi and into mindfulness. But until this year, I had never taken to meditation… probably because I had never before made it “my own.”
That changed 92 days ago.
First, I began by refreshing the little altar against the far wall of my living room: I dusted it, moved around the icons, emblems, mementos, collected feathers, candles, crystals and currency from two dozen nations that I’ve collected from traveling over the years.
My altar has always been a symbol of spiritual connected.
But after I re-organized the altar, I dedicated it as my meditation space.
It became the home of my practice.
It was granted a physical location for its "belonging" in my day, my mind, my life.
I made a new playlist called “DU Meditations” on my iPhone and added 8 tracks: a song to lead me into meditation, three for my time actually meditating, two to close out meditating (and making my second cup of coffee), plus two more tracks for transitioning into journaling time.
With music to guide my meditation — and verbally chanting or singing some repetitive mantras to add a dose of engagement to the practice — the last 92 days have been a breeze. Sometimes my meditation has lasted all of 6 minutes. Sometimes, closer to 45. Some days, I journal right after meditating. Some days, I journal before.
The ritual has varied in time, length, depth, interest and effectiveness for the last three months. And even though it has ebbed and flowed like any living discipline, the practice has continued to serve me with what I value the most. That, to me, is all that matters.
I still feel like way too much a novice of my meditation practice to be able to teach you much about meditating.
But writing, however?
Writing is what I’m obsessively hoping to give to you:
A writing practice that is entirely your own.
Not made in the image of what you think it “ought” to be or “has” to be.
But instead, a perfect reflection of who you are, what you desire, and what keeps your mind, heart and body in the supportive space of ritualized mindfulness. A conscious, self-sustaining outlet of your voice, selfhood and truth. Something that you can carry with you without a whisper of fight, anxiety, pressure, or expectation.
From July 17 to August 28, 2018, you’re invited to join me and a small cohort of conscientious creatives, upstart writers, part-time journalers into the very first live-guided writers’ group experience that I am assembling.
This yet-to-be-named writers’ group experience will take place across two months, and exists as the ideal container of personal support, group coaching, peer-reviewed writing, accountability and heart-centered guidance that will leave you feeling seen, witnessed, and lifted up.
In an age of online clutter, social media noise, dime-a-dozen courses and shitty products, I’m inviting you to reconnect to yourself through a patiently-paced collective experience:
Depth and levity.
Purpose and playfulness.
We will use pen and paper to cultivate passion, channel light, stoke joy, reconnect to play, and learn how to continually channel these qualities in our writing — and throughout our lives.
Featuring every-other-weekly group coaching calls that blend interactive webinar with group dialogue, Q+A and discussion, over two months you’ll relish this dedicated space, deepen your voice, listen to your creative callings, and reciprocate your authentic writing desires:
- Tuesday, July 17 (1PM ET): "Shadows and Light"
- Tuesday, July 31 (1PM ET): "Finding Home"
- Tuesday, August 14 (1PM ET): "Embodying and Expressing Inner Harmony"
- Tuesday, August 28 (1PM ET): "Wholeness (in an Age of Fracturing)"
Best of all, this live writers’ group is entirely guided and supported by my writing course, Unavoidable Writing.
As a member, you’ll receive full course access (for life) and work through major concepts alongside the entire writers' group over our spacious summer together (a $274 value).
Finally, every Friday, you can schedule 25-minute one-on-one phone time with me during Office Hours for ongoing accountability and check-ins, plus live review of your course material submissions.
Imagine your personal journal becoming the mindfulness dojo you require to ground, sustain, and expand your day-to-day consciousness.
I’d be honored to show you the way.
Registration for this “live guided” writers’ group experience is available only until Monday, July 16 at 11:59 PM EST for the super affordable price of just $474.
As a special bonus, if you register by Tuesday, July 4 you’ll receive an added 1-hour coaching call with me to assess your personal relationship to writing, identify which points of stuckness and hesitation may reveal the greatest growth potential for you, and create on-the-spot tactics and suggestions for making the absolute most of your creative journey inside the writers’ group.
We start on Tuesday, July 17th at 1 PM EST.
With love and creative abundance,
P.S. - I'm also excited to share a new decision I've come to that my course, Unavoidable Writing, will now be available year-round to new students, instead of in temporary windows a few times throughout the year.
Now, you can self-select when is the most ideal time to explore this course that teaches you how to turn your creative resistance into your refuge.
